Thanks! the bunnings link is enough, my husband can do the wiring for us. I think they are going to wait for a while ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 9385Mar 31, 2014 5:12 pm ![]() That is just horrible workmanship. It should have picked up by builder's quality control. I know it happened to someone else in past. Next thing soggy ceiling plaster came off next day. May not happen in your case but don't be surprised if your ceiling will be down in next day or so. Remember water is there and making everything heavy by every minute. So I rang through to the New Home Maintenance team this morning and they told me that they were already aware of it. Seems like PD is monitoring the forums and an email was sent to the team already! Plumber is coming out tomorrow so I guess I'll find out then the extent of the damage......sigh....just feel like we're constantly taking 1 step forward and then 2 steps back..... If possible, get the downlights connected to a base/holder instead of getting the light directly hardwired. They did not tell about this to us but our BC said that's how PD do it in every house. But I simply think that is silly unless they believe those lights will not need to be replaced ever. Of course we can get an electrician to replace them if hardwired but who is going to pay for labor. Plumber is coming out tomorrow so I guess I'll find out then the extent of the damage......sigh....just feel like we're constantly taking 1 step forward and then 2 steps back..... So after assessments yesterday by the plumber and electrician: Good News - Plumber found the source of the leak - Electrics are all good (based on everything still turning on) Bad News - I now have a hole in the plaster wall behind the spa.... - One of the spa jets was the source of the issue and they need to order the part in. Most likely damaged during installation - There is plaster damage on the ceiling which is quite visible Water damage is so frustrating to deal with.....now that I have my floorboards installed and I have moved in, I am NOT looking forward to seeing the whole kitchen ceiling repainted. Plus I haven't received a call or any updates from the assigned Site Supervisor....more fun chasing down PD to understand what/when/how/what will be the next course of action....... Tip for everyone - if you're getting a spa, don't just test that it drains well, fill it up (it may take a while) as part of PCI. The jets won't work as most likely they will only install the compressor post handover, but if one of the jet connectors has been damaged, water will leak out anyway. I'm getting a spa installed as well... which one did you get? We have a single storey house so I'm not sure if we would even know there was a leak. I would advise regardless, fill it up, leave it for say 5 minutes and see if the water level has dropped. We tested the drainage for all our sinks/toilets/vanities/baths but didn't think to test if the spa would hold water! I got an update today from PD (it does seem like someone is monitoring the forums which is good) and a site supervisor will be out next Tuesday to assess what needs to be fixed. Will keep posting updates on how it progresses. Re: Porter Davis homes 9398Apr 03, 2014 5:29 pm Hi Guys! After a few long months in and out of various builders and a high stack of quotes, my partner and I have decided to build with Porter Davis! I must say after reading just a few thing in the thread I am really nervous as their workmanship isn't great.. Anyone give us some tips, tricks or advice? We are signing the contract on Sunday. built the Dunedin 28 with Porter Davis. Re: Porter Davis homes 9399Apr 04, 2014 11:28 am Just some gossip on something happening around the industry. There has been a recent win by a house owner regarding an issue with the slab. Additional recommendations made by other industry experts regarding this issue is to ensure a concrete pavement is put around the house to avoid rain water going into the slab. Happy I didn't go with them ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 9400Apr 04, 2014 11:57 am ![]() Hi Guys! My opinion is that at this price range, all builders' sub contractors will have varying degrees of quality and problems. It's how they respond and fix these issues that sets them apart. PD seem to be one of the better ones in this department. For me, the fact that they monitor this forum daily is proof they take their reputation seriously and are embracing social interaction rather than shying away and brushing things under the covers.
