Our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64705 Re: Porter Davis homes 8583Nov 24, 2013 10:32 am ![]() ![]() Hi everyone, Just wanted to let you know the Valentino Basin Stepped Vessel is no longer available. You will most likely get an email from your BC once they try to order it, and will have to re-select. Hi chrystee, were you given another option as a straight replacement, or are you forced to upgrade your basin now? Hello, They sent me three options. I didn't like them, so I asked if she could send me other options in the lifestyle and prestige range which she did. I got to choose from 6 in total, at no extra cost. Re: Porter Davis homes 8584Nov 24, 2013 2:17 pm Hi All, I noticed that some of the windows around our house have planks of wood above them. Does anyone have this? Or are they going to put something over them? It looks awful! TIA Re: Porter Davis homes 8585Nov 24, 2013 4:27 pm No idea Adj? Not that I have noticed. - can u show a pic of what you mean? Re: Porter Davis homes 8586Nov 24, 2013 6:52 pm Hi Claire, I have put a pic on my blog now - I didn't know how to upload in here... http://buildingthedreamhome.wordpress.c ... r-windows/ That said, I just realised that the expansion joints aren't in a line ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8588Nov 24, 2013 7:51 pm ![]() The wood may be placeholders for painted I fills, but that expansion joint is definitely inconsistent! How could they miss such a thing? No idea Lurgen.. Seems to be the story of our build so far ![]() Are you saying they will just paint the wood?? Surely not.. it looks awful.. I was hoping at least for colorbond over the top.. Why would you have aluminium windows and painted wood infills? Re: Porter Davis homes 8589Nov 24, 2013 10:34 pm Check your contract drawings and look for "FC Sheet Infill Over" above your windows - if that's there, I believe that means you're getting wood infills. Aluminium isn't standard, so unless you requested it explicitly this would be normal. Less than ideal, I know, but window frames almost never fit into the brickwork perfectly so some infill is unavoidable. Pity builders don't seem to explain this properly. I took a second look at that expansion joint and really hope they can explain it to you. I'd be furious personally. Or are they going to put something over them? It looks awful! TIA That's the infill ajd78. We weren't very happy when we saw it either. Finally our SS had timber ones for timber and aluminum windows had the similar colour aluminum infills. It either gets stained or painted to match the window or door. Check my blog I have a photo with the aluminum. Ps dying for photos of your kitchen window! Is it all fixed ? Re: Porter Davis homes 8593Nov 25, 2013 11:44 am ![]() ![]() We have a PCI date!! Its getting soooo close ![]() Congrats skye02 ![]() ![]() ![]() . Ours got postponed to Monday. I'm excited too. ![]() ![]() Thanks Tinker & good luck with yours! Please keep us posted on how you go. I have already noticed a few issues with my place but they dont want to hear about the problems until walk through. I kind of figured they would want to get them fixed now instead of waiting but oh well. Cant wait to hear how it all goes & how long it takes ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8594Nov 25, 2013 2:17 pm Good luck Tinker and Skye with your PCI. Hope all goes super for you. Tinker - a little behind on your blog. Please post some new photos. Re: Porter Davis homes 8595Nov 25, 2013 5:47 pm Thanks mummaDJ, sky02, & backpocket. We received a call from SS in the morning requesting to change PCI t tomorrow morning. As a couple of things that was suppose to be completed during the weekend hadn't. Since we rather have things completed we agreed. Will keep you guys posted. Will upload some pictures and post soon ![]() Hope you you have settled down by now. Loved your post about blinds. Thanks for the pictures of the temporary blinds. Re: Porter Davis homes 8596Nov 25, 2013 6:01 pm ![]() ![]() ![]() We have a PCI date!! We let our first SS every time we came across a problem he would look into. At the beginning our current SS too wanted to wait till things were done. ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8597Nov 26, 2013 8:38 am ![]() Check your contract drawings and look for "FC Sheet Infill Over" above your windows - if that's there, I believe that means you're getting wood infills. Aluminium isn't standard, so unless you requested it explicitly this would be normal. Less than ideal, I know, but window frames almost never fit into the brickwork perfectly so some infill is unavoidable. Pity builders don't seem to explain this properly. The bricklayer should have checked the gauge from the rebate on the slab to the top of the window and set the gauge accordingly to set the lintel at the correct height. Some slight differences creating a gap are usually covered up with some 15-20mm quad, not standard framing pine which will rot ![]() Window height does make a difference re the amount of brick courses down the side but the difference is made up in the sill or in the splits under the sill. The bricklaying on both jobs look pretty good but those window really let the job down and I would not accept it. Both Tinker and ajd78 seem to have the same issues her and I'd hazard a guess to say they may have the same supervisor and or bricklayer. Either way I recommend you PM each other and have a chat. Good luck Being a builder is more than just having once held a hammer. It's about the trades you hire and ensuring that they give a result that meets the industry standard and the home owners expectations. There are a few ways to screen stacker doors. Have you considered retractable or pleated screens? Depending on how they are configured you can work the screens around them. Now just gotta wait for my bank/broker to get their asses into gear so we can get started. I'm nervous about some of my selections.. That's basically the admin side of things done for me, and I must say I'm very impressed. Much easier and more informative than last time (not that last time was bad, other than a couple of dramas, it was quite good too). Now to wait for some building to happen so I can start taking pics.
