Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 8502Nov 18, 2013 6:09 pm Hey Mumma dj, why the need to pay for phone connection? Our contract has a 462 charge for telecommunication infrastructure connection to home....im confused I thought this meant it was hooked up already? Re: Porter Davis homes 8503Nov 18, 2013 6:31 pm My understanding is that the telecommunication infrastructure is essentially for the underground cables (or however they do it) from the street to your home. You then have to engage a supplier to make those cables 'active' so you'd incur a charge from the particular supplier you choose to have your service with (Telstra, Optus, etc). Re: Porter Davis homes 8504Nov 18, 2013 9:19 pm We had PD lay the bolero flooring in rustic coffee, however some packs of the flooring are a shinier finish than other packs laid, most of them have a matt look finish. This is unfortunately down the passage so you can see from the front entrance. Looks horrible, has anyone else had difference in the finish of their bolero flooring? All quite uniform. That is a real bummer. Chat to your SS about it straight away. Re: Porter Davis homes 8506Nov 18, 2013 9:55 pm ![]() Hey Mumma dj, why the need to pay for phone connection? Hi Claire As ftdt notes, this cash is for the connection to the underground pit in the street. The telco man came and hooked it up from the underground pit to the actual service. Re: Porter Davis homes 8507Nov 18, 2013 10:23 pm MummaDJ, your house looks amazing ![]() Claire - where are you at? I haven't been for a while so not sure... last time I went I was locked out ![]() Backpocket - how is your house going? To all the new starters - congrats... wishing you all a smooth and happy process.. ![]() Just a question to all - how much contact are you getting with SS during the process? Re: Porter Davis homes 8508Nov 18, 2013 11:35 pm Hey ajd78. Good to hear from you again! Stairs were going in today, I could see through the back door. Plastered and cornices in too. Garage and alfresco roof now framed. Moving steadily along. Communication Hmmm BC, hopeless! last week I got the first unsolicited email from her after no contact for three months, no calls, emails, texts, nothing. First SS spoke to us once and hung up on us during the second phone call. He left the company. Seriously, we don't think he ever made it our site, just booked trades. Current SS? Always either picks up the phone or calls us back. We don't get calls initiated by him, but then we check our build every night and if we have a concern we call, so he probably does not need to. Very upfront and straight down the line which we are happy about, No hesitation in having a meeting on site when he took over the build. Very upfront and straight down the line which we were happy about, we even emailed him the updated plans and queried the window issues (we have the same window issue as Tinker). All in all very happy. Testimony very small issues in the last two inspection reports. All either fixed or being monitored. I really have to say that as a second time builder with PD I REALLY MISS 24/7. ![]() Sorry for going on, rant over! Re: Porter Davis homes 8509Nov 19, 2013 8:27 am Thanks AJD During our build we would get a call every fortnight on a Friday from SS if we hadn't spoken for some reason. He would give an update of where things were at. I know he had an office day every Weds with the BC to update her on all the jobs. I would then get a quick call from her on a Weds, not every week, but perhaps every 2nd. She knew I lived close by and was closely monitoring the build and sometimes knew that I knew what she was telling me, but it was useful when we got locked out as I couldn't see what was happening. If you aren't getting much - suggest having the conversation with your BC and SS asking what they normally do and perhaps set some expectations, maybe ask for a weekly update or fortnightly update. The key is the communication and luckily our SS understood this and said it himself. Not much at all unfortunately. I hope they set up another 24/7 portal for future customers. Re: Porter Davis homes 8511Nov 19, 2013 12:24 pm Thanks all. I don't have a problem as yet - specifically. I was just wondering whether what we were having is normal. I'm not unhappy yet. He does a good job and he has had to put up with a few stuff ups which aren't his fault. Our BC has just left tho which I find extremely sad. She was amazing - extremely thorough. Very sad. Haven't heard who has taken over yet but I assume that will happen in coming days. I dot know much about this 24/7 site. Sounds like it was good. If I continued to have the same bc I would say it was ok not to have it, time will tell with new one ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8512Nov 19, 2013 2:01 pm Whoo Hoo!! popped up to the house at lunch time, staircase is half in and they were delivering doors and architraves. Bring it on ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8513Nov 19, 2013 9:07 pm Hi Adj - we haven't had anything happen on site since staircase went in last thurs and friday. Bit frustrated. As far as SS goes - our calls every wednesday, and I will occasionally txt him at other time during the week and he will reply usually soon or call back, I try not to call him and just have a list of things to check with him when he calls on a wednesday, like our bc who sent us an update on monday which said cabinets were installed, so I rushed over excited to check but she must have been misinformed as no cabinets are in now that we can see. Both get back to me timely both are approachable, so have no complaints in that respect just feels like build is maybe put on the backburner while they maybe try finish ones that can be finished before chrissy which is annoying...but what can you do ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8514Nov 19, 2013 9:17 pm ![]() Whoo Hoo!! popped up to the house at lunch time, staircase is half in and they were delivering doors and architraves. Caught up on your blog Mumma! Looks soooo good! Thanks for the info on blinds - I'd like to have the plantation shutters too. Hi sambogirl, we are building a two storey lifestyle we started in early August, and contract date is 2 April. Our SS will not give us a date yet, he says it is too early. Fingers crossed for late feb, daly March as our current house went on the market today and we will need somewhere to live ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 8520Nov 19, 2013 10:50 pm Guttering is on and pipes are in. Moving along nicely.

Our plans have a single door (we forgot to put in a window) but the door frame has not been put in and there's a window sitting in the garage along with the door frame - both of which would fit in the gap in the frame (btw - we have the frame invoice even though in our opinion it's not finished yet) We emailed our BC to ask about the window - wondered if their plans were wrong (b/c it's not like that's never happened before according to others on here), and if so, we are more than happy for them to put in the window. She stated that "Your house will be built as per the plans, any material on site is required for areas specified on the plans. We are unable to accommodate any structural changes at this stage of the construction process." so we are wondering where the heck that window will be going (as we don't have any windows that size on the plans and all windows are in) and why on earth was it delivered if it was "specified on the plans"? ![]() ![]() ![]() So we are waiting to hear from our site supervisor to find out what is going on, and if they can just be done with and put the window in. If not, we'll think about putting in a new door afterwards with a window on it. We're not worried either way, but figured if the window was there it might be on their plans (as a mistake) but we are happy with this "mistake" and will gladly help them out by having the window ![]() ![]() Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wow that is terrible about the insurance!
