And has anyone used boral expose aggregate concrete for their driveway...would you recommend this product. Can someone let me know how I can post a photo directly without a link on this blog. I tried using the Img option and it would not let me paste. I don't have the patience to create another blog. Re: Porter Davis homes 5882Aug 12, 2012 10:06 am hi guys just updated blog after a couple of weeks for those intrested......... Porter Davis homes 5883Aug 12, 2012 6:06 pm ![]() Ours was a little better. I started by mentioning all the defects and then he had a quick wonder around the house to see if there were other problems. I was happy with the service they provided. Recommendation for everyone building… make sure that the house is perfect before handover otherwise you will be taking time off work waiting for tradies to come and fix stuff. Listen to this problem I had with the Blanco freestanding oven… The oven which is only 6 months old needed the elements to be replaced. I took me 5 weeks from logging a support call, service centre to older the parts and repair agent coming to fix the oven………….. Bad service Blanco, you should be ashamed. PD stop using Blanco as a supplier please. blanco I wouldn't touch their products. We built a house a few years ago. Paid for what we thought was a reliable brand, gas stove never worked properly and oven heating element went in 6 months and oven seal came off. They repaired it but after 6 months it happened again ( element ) and out of warranty. It's amazing the difference a little paint can make ![]() ![]() Are other encountering similar issues with Blanco. Interested too, although that horse has bolted for us! We will be replacing the blanco dishwasher PD are providing with our Bosch, but only because we already own it (we were able to take it with us when we sold our last house). Re: Porter Davis homes 5886Aug 14, 2012 7:21 pm hi monkeypantz, how is it all going with the build. pics look good on your blog any idea when your moving in as yet. Porter Davis homes 5887Aug 14, 2012 8:46 pm ^our SS told us "definitely October", but we'll see! He says he can give a good indication of completion once the tiling starts, so hopefully we'll have a better idea soon. We're staying with family at the moment, so on the 'personal space' hand we want it to happen ASAP, but on the financial hand the longer the better, lol! Porter Davis homes 5889Aug 14, 2012 10:37 pm Hi Monkeypantz. Are you able to post a link to your blog pretty please. I am on Tapayalk and can't see signatures and I really want to check our your progress!!! Thanks!! Sometimes you dont have the luxury to accept this option... like when your house is around 4 months over contract and your hitting the wall financially. If it had of been within contract I would never of accepted my house being incomplete. When they have you by the short and curlies and everyone still wants their cash you sometimes just have to cop a few in the face and thank your stars things are not any worse... $250 a week Liquidated damages is a bit of a joke. Waiting till they complete (or you accept the house) until they pay you is also a bit of a joke. Surely they could pay the damages on a monthly basis... as loan and rent is usually paid on a monthly basis. Waiting almost 4 weeks for the damages cheque to come and not having anyone call back when you ask where it is is also a bit of a joke (and cheque has still not arrived). Taking time off work and waiting for tradies to (not)come and fix doors that were broken or unfinished at handover is also a bit of a joke. Calling to tell the Site Super the tradie didn't arrive and having no call backs for a new appointment day or explanation as to why he didn't show is also a bit of a joke. Having walls smashed the day before handover by the appliance installation people but still accepting the house on the grounds it will be fixed in the next few days is also a bit of a joke (when its still not fixed after 4 weeks...). With all this laughing that I have been doing (over all the jokes!!) I have pretty much decided that I will do the fixes myself. At least I know they will be done and I wont waste time waiting for people that don't really seem to care. My advice, think about getting handy. Head to bunnings, do some courses, look up "how to's" on the internet... etc... It will save you a lot of time and effort in the end. Seriously. Re: Porter Davis homes 5893Aug 15, 2012 12:57 pm Zinner – I tell you what, even though things seem to have turned out alright for us, if we were looking to build now, and not a year ago, and I had read any of your posts prior to deciding upon a builder, I would never in a million years have picked Porter Davis. Maybe you were just very unlucky, maybe we were just lucky everything worked out in the end, but for such a ‘professional’ company to allow their customer to suffer such financial stress, due to problems of their own and not the customers, seems completely heartless. Then to not only hand over a house with outstanding issues, but to not IMMEDIATELY rectify all of those problems without the slightest delay, is again also heartless. We all have some issues while building our homes, no matter the builder. If we didn’t then this forum would be a very empty and boring place! But when there are major problems, everything within their power should be done to at least ease some of the stress. The money they owe you for running over contract should be paid monthly, even if the contract says they don’t have to, it’s the right thing to do. Fair enough if they are just running a few weeks over schedule pay it at the end, but 4 months is a joke. The problems that need rectifying should be done immediately. When we moved in there were some things left outstanding. When some things hadn’t been fixed properly, not only did my SS arrange for the tradies to come and fix the issues, he came first thing in the morning and waited while all the work was done, just to make sure it all got done. The same should be done for you, hell the manager should be on your doorstep making sure you are looked after. I hope eventually you get the enjoy your new house properly, the way everybody should. Could you please send me a private message with your Name, Phone Number, and the details of the type of house you have, so I can get in contact with you and discuss it further. I'm here to help. Cheers. Helen After fighting for almost 2 years now I'm not sure there is any fight left in me. Between Developer delays, site start penalties, house and land packages that are not really house and land packages, bank errors, contract price errors, legal contracts that state if you have the legal contract looked over by solicitors they will be voided (i.e. legal contracts that you cannot seek legal advice on), contract blow outs, incorrect building plans, bad tradesmen who don't seem to care and don't come back to fix mistakes (the main excuse as to why my build went well over), inadequate penalties that don't seem to get paid anyway... yep, I think I'm just about done fighting, complaining, contacting or calling anyone anymore. I have tried to avoid getting legal advice on this for a long time, in fact, all during my build, when after paying good money for independent inspections at frame, fixing, and final stage and knowing nothing was being done about these issues brought up in reports(that were paid for by me) sent to my SS and BC I know that whatever I do makes little difference. I'm all out of "catching more flies with honey" as the honey approach does not seem to make any difference. Even with all the face punching I got during my build, I was still always nice, polite, and understanding to all the PD staff that I spoke to. Now that I finally have a phone you could call me (yes, up until last week my phone line was not working so after spending 3 weeks, time off work, and more than 10 hours (not an exaggeration either, I have the logs) on the phone between telstra and the PD wiring contractors they found that the phone line was not connected to the splitter inside the house correctly. From telstra's end, everything was connected correctly and I will still have to pay 3 weeks of phone line rental even though I couldn't use a phone.) As I said, I was willing to take the piddly penalty cheque and move on but as even this small thing seems to elude me, I think I will be forced to find a professional that can get this last thing done for me. The penalty cheque was supposed to be ready on handover. Not only was it not ready, there was no one in the office on the handover day to sign it off anyway. I was told all staff that could possibly sign it off were "in a meeting". I had to settle with leaving the head office with only the wrong set of keys (yes... the keys to the back bi-fold door were the wrong keys and didn't open the door). As far as I can gather, PD have forced me to look at this as the only option now. ******** pp: I called the PD office as recently as this morning to enquire about my penalty cheque and where it was. I have still not received a call back yet. Only after speaking with a colleague about my frustrations (he has heard them all since I started the building process) and his advice that I seek a professional to continue the fight have I come to this think that this might be my only means of getting this issue closed. Re: Porter Davis homes 5898Aug 15, 2012 3:26 pm hi all. Just wanted to ask a question regarding cavity for a fridge. Does anyone have these measurements: 960mm wide plaster to plaster and 700mm deep? If so, what fridge where you able to put there? Thanks Re: Porter Davis homes 5899Aug 15, 2012 4:42 pm ![]() hi all. Just wanted to ask a question regarding cavity for a fridge. Does anyone have these measurements: 960mm wide plaster to plaster and 700mm deep? If so, what fridge where you able to put there? Thanks There should be quite a few, especially if height is not an issue (we got a complimentary overhead cupboard that we didn't even think about until the fridge didn't fit! lol my first true handy-man job was to move the cupboard up slightly). http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/side-by-side-fridges/filter/-943593658/ is very helpful sorting through fridges that will fit that link should take you directly to a page that only has fridges in that size range Re: Porter Davis homes 5900Aug 15, 2012 8:26 pm Our fixing stage has started, not sure who at PD is deciding to fit what they want without our consultation.
1. We asked for a single pane fixed window, paid for it but they have fixed a split pane fixed window, spoke to the BC after sending number of emails to the SS. The SS only say we will fix everything prior to handover (have been hearing this line all the time from day one) 2. I have also noticed that someone at PD has decided to choose our ensuite basins and no one has informed us of this change. 3. Many electrical points missing...do we get a credit for this or should we get them to put the points. 4. Water gets logged on besides our slab, sent photo's to the SS said he would fix the drains, I don't think this has been fixed as yet as water is still getting logged...This I believe is serious as I learned that this can cause the slab to heave. 5. Wrong heating unit (SS said he will ensure we get the upgraded model we paid for) 6. Cracks on bricks. 7. Garage and laundry doors painted wrong colour. 8. Floor tiles look different from the sample we bought...were offered the "different batch excuse" There are many more issues...has anyone else encountered similar issues (Zinner your issues are far bigger than ours). When we first selected PD we expected nothing less than quality but its far from what we are getting. I am only hoping at handover they walk the talk. Wow that is terrible about the insurance! I guess ideally proof of insurance should be provided prior to first deposit but I'd imagine they would refuse to be out of… 17 9324 There isn't any need to. As I wrote previously, there isn't a set term, there is just commencement based on earlier of contract signing or building permit issue and… 24 9099 Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 2589 ![]() |
