Porter Davis homes

Hi all, we are building with PD Lifestyle and just past fixing stage.

Wondering if anyone has the same “feature” in the garage of their PD house?

The garage has bricks around the rear-access garage door only, rest of the garage is plastered.. I raised this issue with the SS and his response was that this is a Porter Davis feature and having plaster on the sides of the door would void the warranty as the plaster can crack.

This is how the garage looks on the plan:

Hi baronx,

Our PD garage looked the same as yours at that stage. I drove past last night and now it has all been finished off with paint and there is some kind of wide border around the bottom perimeter of the garage which gives it a great look. Don't worry, it will look great. I will be going past tommorrow morning and I will take a picture so you can see it finished off.

Tiles (ALL OF THEM!) completed over the weekend! Wooshka!

Thats really quick!!!
Have a real good look at them the next day or so to ensure its quality.
I have tilers in the family and I suspect they would be shocked to hear that a house is tiled in a weekend....
Make sure PD aren't slipping quality just to get your final cheque before they shut up shop for XMAS.

Cheers

There is no way we will be in before xmas. With 3 weeks left, there is simply too much todo. Our bank alone needs 1 week..

We have left..

Carpet
Argus Electrical (yet to installed)
Sinks/Taps/Toilets
Shower Screens
Bath

And quite a few issues.

With the tiles, they look really really good.. we inspected them yesterday, and they are spot on. Even better then I expected to be honest, there must have been a team. I cant see 1 guy doing it all. Easily a 2/3 person job.

We have another problem at the back of the house, I noticed the cornice/window area is not straight on one of the windows, not sure which it is, didnt have a level or a ladder to check.

Hey Humble, I'm really happy that you love how the tiles have been laid. I hope they have done a great job on our tiles also. We drove past our place last night and looking thru the window we could see our tiles laid thou not sure if the grout has been put in, power is on, front has been rendered. Have made a time to see SS tomorrow morning to have walk thru. I will take pictures and put on this forum.

We have told SS that we want to be in after Xmas. At this stage if all goes smoothly we should be in by end of Jan to Mid Feb. We are ok with this as we will be doing our own carpet and floorboards after handover. I have just sold my current home and have made settlement on 24th Feb (just in case we need more time re flooring, doing the driveway and any potential hick ups with PD), and if we move in earlier the new owners want to bring settlement early as they originally wanted 60 days.

Baronx,

I'm a female and I'm not too concerned. Think of it as a feature. Otherwise you can always put up your own plaster after handover or paint the bricks white but this may look worse. I would agree with the SS telling you the reason why that section is not plastered, you don't want cracks appearing. In my current home my garage is fully bricked the only plaster you see is on the ceiling which to be honest I prefer but in anycase my garage door leading to the back has been repaired a couple of times because over the time the door has been slammed due to wind when the roller door is up and has damaged my door so I could imagine what it would do to plaster if it was place next to the door.

It's interesting that they are plastering all sides, our last house we built they only plastered the wall that was shared with the internal wall and the rest was exposed brick. Actually same with our current rental.

I say the less plaster the better, it gets knocked around the way we use a garage with bikes etc leaning up against walls and young kids etc. I'd rather have exposed brick than holes in plaster.....I have noticed other people have neat clean garages though so I might not be the norm

Hi baronx,

Here is our garage. I would prefer all brick because I know the walls will mark etc.... but this is how PD do it. Maybe if you are going to have a shed, make it a big enough so you can store alot more things in there and try and keep items in the garage to a minimum. e.g. no bikes

BUILDING ON BOUNDARY - S TYPE GUTTERING

Hello All,

Has anyone here built on a boundary and if so was a "S-Type" guttering system used? If so, would you be kind enough to post the guttering / garage detail as shown on your drawings as I'm trying to understand what it looks like.

Thanks in advance,

Chorlton
Pictures taken this morning. Tiling is being laid at the moment. All looking good. Garage door is in. Everything is painted, may need to redo bits and pieces here and there. Render is painted....

Booboo No 1. Door needs to be redone. Funny how they just hang it back up knowing this is like this. I can't understand why they didn't sand it back and re-do it why the door was still off.

Booboo No 2. Not happy!!!! They will probably just fill this now.
Looking fabulous Eli-kay, love your entrance tiles!

I have s type guttering.. basiically the gutter is in line with the brickwork.. so it sits on top. I dont have a photo to show.. you might be able to see it in some of my posts in the thread.,

Looking fabulous Eli-kay, love your entrance tiles!

Thanks JLD,

I was inspired by the Waldorf in Williams Landing, same with the pillars. I loved the look and put pillars in the lounge and rumpus room. Gives it a nice ambience.
We nearly built the Waldorf but wanted a 5th Bedroom so that we could have a permanent guest bedroom, the Waldorf at Williams Landing is gorgeous. I love pillars too...we had some in our last house and they were my favourite feature.

We've gone for a more casual fitout this time as we're near the beach and it doesn't really suit our new lifestyle but I think I need lots of houses so I can have all the different decorating styles that I love
Shame the finances don't agree
Eli-kay your entrance looks amazing actually all of it does. Cant wait to see it finsihed. What colour is youjr render at the front? I'm trying to get an idea of what ours will look like?! lol
