Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 15501Sep 27, 2017 8:33 pm Hi Folks, We are starting our journey with the build process. First time poster here, this thread has been very useful for us. We paid our deposit a week ago for PD Waldorf design with sterling facede. We have got the initial drawings from our SC and next month going for tender. Would like to share our journey here as it progresses. Thanks to all contributors here, it indeed makes us aware of many unkown things in building trade. Cheers. Re: Porter Davis homes 15502Sep 27, 2017 11:06 pm Framing stage going well so far. I've already lined up Darbecca for the inspection and hopefully a fortnight or so from now we will have concrete down! Building a Kew 28 with Porter Davis Re: Porter Davis homes 15506Sep 29, 2017 1:30 pm Regarding double glazed windows it was cheaper to get double glazed windows compared to buying plantation shutters. We upgraded our insulation ( ceiling and walls) significantly and I highly recommend it. It should be mandatory really. It wasn't that expensive either. Re: Porter Davis homes 15507Sep 29, 2017 1:34 pm Also our gates were never ever locked. Sometimes they were left wide open. Re: Porter Davis homes 15508Oct 01, 2017 9:38 am Good morning everyone ![]() Just wondering if any square set their walls (no cornices). Was this done at tender or WOS? And if anyone did was it an expensive thing? I may have missed the boat as have been through tender, but if its a WOS thing, I may look at doing it. We did this at our WOS appointment last week..Some areas such as our master ensuite had to be square set due to full height tiling but the remainder of the house we had the choice of cornice upgrades or square set. Thanks!! That's good to know. I think we want to do it so glad we still can. If you want to upgrade insulation, it has to be done either at tender or contract. We were incorrectly told that it's done at WOS. This isn't the case. Considering they can't tell us what insullation the house will have, its impossible to upgrade an unknown. Good blinds are more expensive, especially when you start selecting pinch pleat. We will use Holland w'sheer and timber Venetians on windows and panel glides on sliding doors. journeytotheplaza.wordpress.com Re: Porter Davis homes 15512Oct 02, 2017 9:03 am Splashback is in the kitchen. Note: Includes polished edge to stone for undermount basin I didn't pick up on the "single" in the meeting. In our quote it just said undermount sink. And on our plans it shows a double sink. I have emailed our BC to double check as we need and have in our plans a double sink. Plus surely its a WOS thing anyway. But also a reminder that from now on I need to 100% check and double check everything! Re: Porter Davis homes 15518Oct 04, 2017 12:54 pm Yep better to check and check again. The amount of things you pick after tender is just surprising. Both my wife and i reviewed the doc over and over again and always pick up on something...and went back and forth to BC to amended things...such as electrical, kitchen, drawers, shelves, windows..doors etc.....i think now i got 11 BV and 9 PCV. Building the Madison 40 | By Porter Davis Re: Porter Davis homes 15520Oct 05, 2017 9:18 am ![]() Hi all, love reading your build stories. We are looking at building the Dunedin 29 with the raked ceiling, alfresco and soaker tub options, Would anyone happen to know the price of these options. TIA Hi, We are building the Vancouver 33 and went for the raked ceiling in the lounge room (which is not as big as the raked ceiling area in the Dunedin) the cost for it was $5000. Wow that is terrible about the insurance! I guess ideally proof of insurance should be provided prior to first deposit but I'd imagine they would refuse to be out of… 17 9792 There isn't any need to. As I wrote previously, there isn't a set term, there is just commencement based on earlier of contract signing or building permit issue and… 24 9445 Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 2854 ![]() |
