They have their own building inspectors... We were told they were employed by porter Davis to keep the quality of their builds.
In saying that, how can you be sure how thorough they are when they are being paid by porter Davis? We are getting an independent company to be double sure that there's no issues.

would you really trust the PD inspectors after seeing Shanie's post on their floors!! how did they not pick this up??
we were tossing up someone aside from PD, and after reading and knowing that they are paid by PD why would we trust them. The nonsense and rubbish we have been fed thus far, we'd be crazy to not have someone external. id say the same goes for everyone else.

Well after the madness of yesterday, a big thanks to PD for getting cleaners here yesterday afternoon to help get the house back in order! And steam cleaner for our furniture this morning

Construction manager popped by first thing this morning to check it was all ok aswell which was nice.

Will have dust for a little bit settling but a million times better than yesterday.

We asked for copies of our inspections that pd had carried out. We got a single page letter saying simply it had passed. Our bc said they don't get any defects listed or anything.

I would definitely have an independent through and pay the money if we ever built again

Can anyone who has already had their tender appointment let me know the answer to this?

Do you get all your final pricing at your World of Style colour selection or are some prices only revealed to you/calculated at the tender appointment. Trying to avoid having to make a rash decision on the day of tender as I like to research and think things over and hoping I have access to all the pricing before then.

Most items will be confirmed at tender only. From memory, external like bricks etc are all estimates, much like your bathroom add ons. Tiles and kitchen were final prices, but again its hard to keep track on the day unless you kind of do up a budget prior, for each area of the home.

You'd think this type of approach would be common especially if you are working with a budget, but no, the wos appointmnet is very quick and almost pushy to get you throuh till the end with all hope that you just afford it all. WRONG.
I guess the plus for PD is that your falling in love with all your selections (which you do). You get to tender and feel like you just cant part with the items that pushed you over, resulting in a blown out budget ::sad::

just try and keep a running tally for each area of spending, do a budget or excel so you at least know what you can spend in each appointment, and push them to actually help you stick within this.

We've had terrible trouble with stuff not arriving and saying incorrect address, I called them yesterday and they're like "oh we hadn't been advised the address was occupied we need to send a message though to our distribution centre"

so now we've having the fun job of chasing our deliveries, some of which are basically in limbo, and getting the places we ordered from to call Australia Post etc

Ah if You don't laugh you cry. It's still been horrible but at least pd came to the party quickly and it wasn't a long drawn out process and a fight going back and forth with the tradies. Def a mix of emotions that's for sure

Just wanted to provide an update on my Australia Post saga. Kmart called back to say that Australia Post had told them they cannot deliver to our area! So a very frustrated phone call (my 3rd) back to Aus Post only to be told that we're classed as a construction zone and cannot receive deliveries for OH&S reasons. OMG! There've been people living here for a year now! So they're sending a manager to do a drive through and make an assessment. In the meantime I really don't know what choice we have other than to hire a PO Box and parcel locker :/ Never in a million years did I anticipate this sort of trouble.

3 months after moving in an A&L still haven't fixed our window problems. Really disgusted at the fact that after each visit (where they don't resolve the issue), you are bumped to the back of the queue again. Next week will be their 5th attempt at sealing our windows fully. At the rate they are going, winter will be long gone by the time they resolve the issue. :([

What's the issue with your windows again? We have rubbers that were meant to be pulled out that haven't been and no mortar yet.

But then we've been dealing with the wrong Windows since February 1st and they still aren't installed even after handover

All of our windows are awning windows as we selected double glazing for the whole house. Porter Davis however, made some of them fixed i.e. non-openable. As A&L's fixed windows are physically different to their awning windows, Porter Davis just got them to remove the winder mechanism off of some of the awning type windows and mechanically seal them shut. The problem is the sealed windows aren't sealed and leak freezing cold air in to the house and as they don't have a winder I can't do anything with them.

A&L have tried to resolve the problem 4 times now, but we still have the same issue - freezing cold air coming in.

As a last resort I've requested the mechanical seal be removed and winders be fitted, such that they are the same as every other window in the house, which we don't have the same problem with.

We have 4 mechanically sealed windows in the house and every one of them has the same issue.

What house did you build? We have replaced and removed Windows to put stackers in and replaced another one to have a picture window. The others are bedroom windows & a living room one. Hopefully they wouldn't fix those...

Suggestion, don't go for this one if you're choosing a shower head

regretting not choosing the other option that had better features. Preferred the look of this one but would love to be able to get a stronger jet.

Hi guys, just a tip that might work.

Most of these new shower heads are designed to be water wise. And the way they do it is by inserting a restriction device inside the hose connector where it screws into the shower rail connection point. Also there might be another one where the hose screws/connects to the handle of the shower head/handle.

Get hubby to unscrew them and have a look inside to see if there is a restrictor.

If you remember the old style shower heads that nearly every house hold has, I just replaced one in my unit and it was absolutely shocking. When I removed it and looked inside both ends, I noticed restrictors.

I removed them both with a little tender force and vwala!!! Awesome showers.

Have a look, and let us know.

How much on average is the double glazing per window?

I can't remember the per sq m price but we have a $4000 allowance for our Randwick24 it's a smaller 4 bed.
To give you an idea... There's 3x small narrow Windows at front facade, bedrooms 2 & 3 have skinny long Windows above bed head, bed 4 has a normal sized window. Living has 2 floor to ceiling Windows either side of tv and the ensuite & bathroom standard Windows.
We have taken out a window in lounge & rumpus to put 2x stackers around the alfresco and a picture window in the rumpus that already come double glazed so they're not in that price
