Apparently he won't inspect at the same time as third parties? I want to go through with our inspector first to get a sense of whether I appropriately understand any issues that arise, and know the severity of any issue - whether I should be concerned or if I need to just suck it up.

You are paying them to do a job; let them get on with it and don't distract them and make them loose their train of thought.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that ChrisHeli - given our anticipated tight turn around times I want to ensure I can communicate the most severe issues to our site supervisor later that day, so he has as long as possible to rectify the issues.
This will be our 6th inspection report during our build, and the most detailed best reports we have had have come from the inspections we attended. The two inspections we didn't attend we didn't get thorough or particularly useful report and issues were missed (by the independent inspector on that day). One of our first inspections was particularly lovely as the inspector had known our previous house owners and had done work on the old house there.
Joea - very excited to hear all is on track for your PCI and possible hand over this week. Fingers crossed for you. I'll be watching your blog with anticipation! Quick question - is your gas meter in? I'm not expecting HWS until handover, but would have thought our meter would be in - if it isn't in I'm not sure we could move in as heating, hot water and cooking all need gas.
FirstTimePDBuilder - congratulations on your site cut! It's an exciting moment (that few non buildeing people seem to understand the excitement of).
gretharan - I would carefully looks at the costs of replacing batten fix lights with down lights later. We thought to do this downstairs in our build and replace later with downlights/LEDS. The PD cost for a batten, plus the cost you will pay for a sparky plus the cost you will pay for the LED unit plus the cost of any touch ups to the ceiling.. it was easier and pretty much as cost effective to get PD to install LEDs downstairs.
We installed far less LEDs upstairs - just to the master ensuite, dressing area, one to the balcony. We may retrofit them if it bothers us, but we figure it's nicer to have softer light to bedrooms - we installed points for wall mounting lights behind our bed - instead of having lamps on our side table. We will also retrofit heat lamps to the bathrooms.
