My partner and I were hoping to build our first home with Porter but as far as …. even started yet. I think it's ridiculous it's Aug and instead of your promised site start, you haven't even had tender! I'd ask for my $1000 deposit back. Or just cut your loses and consider yourself lucky it was only $1k and not something like $20k @contract stage. it is ridiculous! it so heartbreaking too. we still have to decide whether we still want to go with Porter or not. We both had our heart set on that house for so long so it's hard to just turn around and say we are going elsewhere, but if this doesn't get resolved soon, we will ask for our deposit back and try again somewhere else. I hope Joanne sees this and can help. I just wish they would get their butts moving and do their job so it can get underway. I'm shattered. Not happy Porter Davis. built the Dunedin 28 with Porter Davis. I only spoke to the guy last week and he never told me he was leaving until I got an email from the BC. I am sure this is why not much has happened on site during the last few weeks. The 'roof' of the drawer actually has a hole cutout, and they will use that hole as access to ease the oven in and level it where necessary. Without a drawer, there will be no access whilst installing the oven. Re: Porter Davis homes 10228Aug 19, 2014 4:05 pm ![]() Actually, for anyone interested, I asked for my fuses to be moved into the garage. I think you can split the actual meter to be outside the house and the fuses to be inside. Reason being is that you don't need to go outside the house if one of your fuses jumps. Also handy if you live in neighbourhoods where little rascals like to run around switching people's mains off. Quote I got at tender was in the order of $1000's. I can't remember the exact price but it was one of those ridiculous quotes you give when you can't be stuffed doing something. Like the $1000 quote for a water filter next to the sink. Needless to say, I declined both. Edit: TBH, i just reread the old posts properly and realised you are having your fuses in the garage. Can you share how much they charged for that option? Hey sliick, my fusebox is in my garage and I didn't ask for it to be placed there nor was I charged extra. I had a quick look at my electrical documents as well and that detail isn't there either. Perhaps you'll get lucky when they wire up your place? ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 10229Aug 19, 2014 8:20 pm Photos of our upstairs with 99% completed frame (except for the few necessary fix-ups)... http://bendigowaldorf.blogspot.com.au/2014/08/photos-of-upstairs-framing.html Re: Porter Davis homes 10230Aug 19, 2014 8:36 pm Just letting everyone know that Laminex Licorice Linea has been discontinued in the silk finish. It was but PD were very accommodating after we raised some concerns surrounding our new selection not matching some areas of the house. We are lucky we live a few minutes from the new showroom so were able to pick something yesterday ![]() Re: Porter Davis homes 10236Aug 21, 2014 7:28 pm Hi all, Just letting you know we are in the process of cancelling our contract with Porter Davis to build a Waldorf 48. As some of you know our final valuation came in at $120,000 less than build cost and even though we challenged the bank valuation, they did not come down at all in their valuation. So regardless of having finance approved for more than the total cost of building, all it takes is a low valuation to throw a massive spanner in the works. After having to assess our options after being declined due to valuation we are not in a position to build the Waldorf which is really deflating after all the effort we have put into this project so far, which has been what seemed like an endless battle itself throughout the whole tender/contract process. We never even received final plans as PD were stalling due to the low valuation but blaming it on having to make some clarifications, or saying the plans will be sent in the next day or so, but never turning up. Honesty would have been nice. It is understandable that they don't want to do further work until the problem with the valuation is sorted, but there is no need to lie about it. We are currently trying to get our deposit (less costs) back from Porter Davis but they are holding it to ransom. Refusing to even give me a refund figure unless I speak to their home loan partner Choice Home Loans. It has taken 10 days since we asked Porter Davis for the break figure to find out (after repetitive phone calls and emails) that they will not even give us a figure unless we speak to Choice, as they would be able to get a better valuation. So they are willing to get any project through their finance company without regard to the financial implications for their clients. After speaking to our solicitor, we have emailed requesting to speak to a manager about this and have been told to expect a call from the Manager tomorrow. I just wanted to give you all an update, and wish you all the best for your builds. sassid ...building the Emporio with MainVue/Henley BLOG: http://thewaldorfproject.blogspot.com.au/ HOMEONE THREAD : https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75753 Re: Porter Davis homes 10237Aug 21, 2014 10:16 pm It's sad to know sassid it did not workout for you. Did you try another bank for valuation? we had massive valuation issues with one bank who we were with for last 7 years. now refinancing with another bank, things looking heaps better so far. good luck to you too mate, hope things will work out for you soon. cheers Re: Porter Davis homes 10238Aug 22, 2014 12:17 am Hi Sassid, I had same issues with CBA and I was requested to try e choice and all went very well. My valuation came very low about 85k less. I was surprised to see another two banks ANZ and WESTPAC came down with what I wanted. The lady who helped me in e choice was exceptionally good. Currently we are at frame stage. Please ping me if you wanna try your luck, i can pass on her details. All the very best. Re: Porter Davis homes 10239Aug 22, 2014 10:01 am Hi Sassid, That's terrible… After all the planning it must be really hard. We went through Choice and refinanced and changed to another bank due to some valuation issues too, and some great offers. Can't fault the service we got from Choice and our new bank NAB through the whole process. Have some contacts too if you need them. Re: Porter Davis homes 10240Aug 22, 2014 12:48 pm that's hard. A friend of mine is also in the same boat and they've opted to lease out their house instead whilst they save up more capital. The option of going to other banks is good but really PD can not force you to do this. It's not like you are asking for a full refund.. it is minus costs. Just like as if you decide to pull out because you just don't like it.
