Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 2984Sep 02, 2011 10:30 am Slab poured on Monday. All looks good. I was shocked when I went to look at the block as it looked so small. They had outlined where all the walls and robes where going in black texta and the rooms looked so small. I kind of freaked out and rang hubby and said they are building the 30sq instead of the 36sq. I said there is no way the 4wd will fit in the garage. He laughed and said that the slab will always look small and so did a few other people. But being female I didn't believe it, so I measured the rumpus, the garage and the length and width of the house and all was as per the 36sq measurements. Phew!!!! Oh and we got our first invoice on Wednesday. It's starting to hurt the hip pocket now as we are now starting to pay for 2 mortgages which will increase over the next few months. All fun and games and hopefully no tears from here on end!!!! The house is looking good. Very exciting. The columns that are in the Waldorf I put in my Ivanhoe house in the rumpus and living room and the diamond tiles that the Waldorf has in the entrance at Williams Landing I took that idea and am having my front hall entrance with that look. It just dresses the house more. I loved the look. Hey eli-kay123, our house is moving along quickly. The Waldorf at Williams Landing is classical and love the look of it. The work must have cost you a bit to do. Can't wait to see pics of your house in the near future Cheers T To my delight putting in the 4 x columns and bulkhead were I think around $600 for all 4. I remember it being really cheap. The hallway tilling as per the Waldorf design was around $3.5K which was a bit costly but this was what we wanted and loved the look. We are doing it in porcelin also but not the high quailty porcelin as per the Waldorf as this was more costly ($6K). We chose porcelin tiles below this category and found similar colours which was great. I have absolutely had enough of not having my phone calls or e-mails responded to! Has anyone done this out of curiosity? And if so, what was the result?!?! I don't want to cause any major troubles, but by the same token, we were contracted to have site start today and have not even received a building permit yet due to the slow nature of the administration. Cheers, Trudy Hi trudyx, I’m disappointed to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with your BC, I understand your frustration and want to be able to help you. Please don’t feel like you are causing trouble and it’s for the best if you are not quite happy and we approach it now rather than later - we want you to enjoy the building experience. If you would like me to help you further regarding this could you please private message me some more information, like your full name, lot number, the name of your current BC and the best number for us to call you on. Cheers, Trudy We weren't happy with our BC in the lead up to contract, so we called our SC - he hadn't made his commission yet - and asked for his advice. We basically sent him an email with our concerns and our expectations. We've kept a good relationship with him, and seeing he sits at the display very close to our build, he's our pseudo point of contact if we have issues. Got a call the next day from our BC's boss, offering us the option to change, but we decided to stick with her as he said he'd discuss our issues with her. He completely agreed with the comments in our email. She's been better since, not great, but I just keep following up and hassling. At the end of the day, it's our house at stake, and being over-cautious may not get the result you expect and are paying for. Re: Porter Davis homes 2990Sep 02, 2011 1:06 pm We had the ground floor frame inspected by an independent inspector last weekend. He picked up some problems and the report was given to the SS. A few items were addressed. The first floor frame and roof trusses have been completed now and PDs Building Inspector had an inspection on Thursday. PD sent the invoice the same afternoon by e-mail. We plan to complete the independent inspection of the frame and roof trusses this weekend. The rest of the items in the first report have been dismissed by the SS saying that the frame complies with the Building and Framing code as per their Building Inspector. If this is what is going to happen, is there any point in having an independent inspection? Re: Porter Davis homes 2991Sep 02, 2011 3:26 pm Hi cmac, We are completing our framing stage in a few days and wanted to get an independant inspection completed at this stage, could I ask who did you use and was the service they provided sufficient? Great that your consultant recommended you the cheaper alternative. Do post a pic once its all tiled up... =) Re: Porter Davis homes 2993Sep 02, 2011 4:32 pm cmac We had the ground floor frame inspected by an independent inspector last weekend. Get your inspector to speak directly to your SS and liaise and get things fixed. It might cost more to get a re-inspection done once the items are rectified but at least you get peace of mind. Some of the items can and will be checked later, so it need not get fixed now or it may not be fixed in the way you expect (or is suggested by your inspector) Good luck... We later found out that our frame was failed 3 times by PD's inspector... Not impressed... Re: Porter Davis homes 2994Sep 02, 2011 4:34 pm On a positive note, fixing is now complete. Got the fixing invoice today. They have rendered the front and will start on the garage trusses and painting next week! We may move in before Christmas after all! Re: Porter Davis homes 2995Sep 02, 2011 8:48 pm Thankyou all for your responses, much appreciated. Finally today I've heard back from my BC, so I will stick it out for a little while longer and if I have further issues, will make some changes. However, the "I've been so busy I can't respond" justification is wearing a little old. If the work load is so large that you can't do it justice, how can you expect me to have faith in how you are dealing with my build? Anyway, end of rant! Yes with the porcelin tiles in the Waldorf they were so expensive. It was great they carried a cheaper range of porcelin tiles so we also put porcelin tiles in the wet areas too. Just like to let you all know that slab is done, frame is up. See my blog for pics. All is looking good. I am wondering what colour or treatment you will be giving your alfresco ceiling? I am thinking that if it is left in the standard white, every little insect / bug / cobweb will be highly visible. Our alfresco walls will be rendered in Dulux's 'Time Capsule', and our inside wall colour will be Wattyl 'New Pearly Gates'. I was thinking of painting the alfresco ceiling in New Pearly Gates, there will is also be a silver fan and 4 downlights. What do you think?
