Browse Forums Building A New House Porter Davis homes 4541Feb 11, 2012 6:58 pm Hey Matt, Agree with T and J&C's advice... It's your money and it's your house. Stick to your guns, keep track of your emails (put all dialogue in writing) and ask all the questions you need. You're the one that needs to be comfortable with the commitment and clear with your expectations - make no assumptions. A good avenue, as J&C suggested, is use your SC. They don't have their commish yet... Make them earn it. Good luck - it will be worth it! We're all here to help Re: Porter Davis homes 4542Feb 11, 2012 8:49 pm Audreyand Oscar All in all a fab house but I'm extremely disappointed with PD. I urge everyone to delay handover unless things are perfect. Well, it's been a while for me - returning after several months. This advice is spot on the money. Our own build is so out of control, but the thing that's really giving us problems are the mistakes and damage that each tradesman has caused. For example, the tilers / carpeters have damaged walls and doors, painters have splashed paint on stone benches, tiles and just about everywhere else. Window frames weren't squared, nail holes in archatroves are either unfilled or filled with plaster and have swollen, tiles and grout are a complete mess, render splattered onto bricks, mismatched mortar, bits of wood glued into eaves in an effort to hide gaps. Did I mention painting? The house interior has been painted twice, and we still pointed out that the rear walls of two of the toilets are partially unpainted. Stairs were not properly stained before varnishing. Several wardrobe doors are damaged. One bedroom has holes in the ceiling. The icy-pole sticks that were used to make a gap between the mirror and tile in ensuite are glued in good and tight. Some doors are warped. I could go on (and I'm not exagerating). I could add a minor positive - the water damaged garage floor has been ground back and sealed. That was only required because the flashings were never fitted until just before Christmas. We've had at least 3 CSCs, none of which were customer focused. New Site Supervisor this week. Maybe that's a positive. I don't know if anybody else has had this kind of experience. For the record, it's with Prestige. Porter Davis homes 4543Feb 12, 2012 8:31 am Hi Matt I agree with the others and certainly know how you feel. Our first BC was terrible and much like yours took far too long to reply with pricing, which makes life difficult when you have contract booked in and only have a small window in which to make changes etc. We considered getting out before contract, but it can be a terribly difficult thing to consider once you are emotionally invested in a house. If you want to stay with PD I think the best thing you can do is PM Ebony on here or email the info@porterdavis.com.au email with your issues, the earlier the better. I can confirm that with a good BC the whole experience is completely different. Ours now is fantastic, and we are only building access. The promotions change all the time, but if you haven't signed yet I would enquire about getting the current promotion if you are entity led to it. The base house cost could be slightly different, but if it works in your favor why not push for it? Re: Porter Davis homes 4545Feb 12, 2012 10:43 am Thanks for all the support and suggestions, I have emailed my SC who has been extremely helpful in the past so I'll await her reply on the issues with the BC. I have also asked about the Style Republic 2012 promotion to see if that can be applied to me as I seem to be paying a small fortune for extras which are now included in the latest promotion, for example the previous promotion was $8000 dollars worth of value whereas now it's $28,000 dollars worth of extras at no extra cost, that's a rather large difference. After having read through the terms and conditions I can't see any reason why this can't be applied so fingers crossed PD will come to the party on that one, I'll definitely be keeping you all posted to let you know how I get on this week. Matt Re: Porter Davis homes 4546Feb 12, 2012 12:56 pm J & C this is scary...where are you building? Southern suburbs - not in an estate. We demolished an old house. I'm very dubous about the tradesmen used by PD, and the time pressures that seem to "force" them to cut corners. I've done home renos before, and although I have no building trade quals, my finish was better in every respect to that in our new, top of the range house. Matt Got a phone call this afternoon, on a Sunday at 5:00pm from the SC; shows that she is dedicated to helping resolve the situation. I will have a resolution on Monday for the BC and may possibly be assigned a new one, but as long as the communication problem is fixed I'm not fussed. As for the new Style Republic 2012 promotion I can switch over to it but since the house price has apparently risen $15,000 since November I would end up paying slightly more with the choices I have included. Good news is just from the estimates the SC could see, everything will all scrape just within the budget! I'm a happy camper now Matt Porter Davis homes 4548Feb 12, 2012 8:36 pm tstr1a Rups tstr1a
ok great. we are also getting 2740 ceilings but wanted to make sure it was $3718 so thats confirmed . We also increased our door heights coz i think high ceilings with high doors looks great Increased door height (2340mm) cost us $96 extra per door. It’s a must with high ceilings otherwise the doors look odd. We didn't extend our door heights T, we found it made them look too narrow/elongated, especially in the bedroom passageway of our display. We did extend the height of our bifolds from 2100mm to 2340mm How much did it cost to increase the height of the bi folds? Your house is going to come out beautiful, I can tell that you guys have good taste
Hey T, Sorry for the late reply. The cost to increase the 5 leaf bifold door's height was $990 and for the 4 leaf $701. Re: Porter Davis homes 4549Feb 13, 2012 6:22 am I am just about to have my PCI inspection (tomorrow) and was at my house yesterday after they had cleaned the site and noticed a couple of hairline cracks that appear on the garage floor. There are about 3 or 4 which run from the internal door to the garage door. The cracks are in the slab, but should I be worried. Gren Re: Porter Davis homes 4550Feb 13, 2012 11:06 pm OK - Heres my Monday update... Brickwork finished, electrical and heating cooling rough ins done. Suspect will be locked out tomorrow - hope I get another few days. Spent about 1.5 hours cleaning all the sawdust from the framing - if you dont clean it they just plaster over the top. Blogs been updated.... Happy with the way things are coming together? We started bricks yesterday, and have to go back on-site this morning (SS called yest) to specify the placement of the front door handle, as we told him that we're very particular about where it goes, so best to be there when the guy does it. What a legend!! Sparkies in today and insulation Friday. Pre-plaster independent inspection booked for Friday... Agree with Alpal about the saw dust, will go thru when brickies finish and all rough ins complete. Picked up 3 slabs last night, one for the brickies, one for the sparkies and one for our SS... Both the long full length gap on the left in line with the windows and the small gap every 3 bricks along the bottom? I have noticed it in some houses around the estate especially PD ones but not all. Porter Davis homes 4560Feb 14, 2012 9:26 pm The long gap is an expansion joint, your house would destroy itself over the course of a year without them, you should have a few all up. There will be a caulking compound put on there in due course to fill it. The small holes are called weep holes, again they are there for a purpose. Mainly for when your house is sad........ Seriously, they serve to allow the air in the wall space to breathe in effect, drains condensation I think. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12332 Ask for references and speak to them.
