Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 8521Nov 20, 2013 7:43 am Hi ingle wood If you think the window is wrong I would keep on it. They do make mistakes - trust me we have had heaps of problems with the plans. And once they get too far past it they try and use the "too late" card. Things have potentially bad on our bad - not sure what is going to happen at this stage. And I am reluctant to write too much on here because last time I did my SS found out about it and said something to me. It's just a crap situation and I am getting frustrated. Grrrr Re: Porter Davis homes 8522Nov 20, 2013 8:33 am ajd78 Hi ingle wood And once they get too far past it they try and use the "too late" card. Grrrr The too late card? Pretty sure you both signed a legal agreement as to what's on those plans. In a previous build my son was involved in with a diffrent company, he was compensated very sweetly for a mistake on the builder's part. As far as the SS saying something to you about the forums, I don't understand what the problem would be if the truth is not exaggerated or misconstrued at all. I told my BC straight up I spend time on these forums, her response was a hearty laugh (she is a bit gorgeous, I am biased, and I mean her personality is gorgeous). Grrrr Grrrr - what a pain - It's not fair that your SS has said something to you about it, he is obviously in the wrong if he's not happy about it, maybe he got his butt kicked and didn't like it We haven't made contact with our SS yet. He tried to call yesterday (on my mobile - annoying when I've told different people at PD several times not to call me and to call my husband b/c I can't take calls during the day) so hubby tried to call him back and could only leave a message. Hopefully we'll be able to touch base with him today. I'm also wondering how often you would expect to hear from and/or meet with them and when did they first contact you? Our BC seems up and down with how often she contacts us. She's nice, but rarely responds to any emails promptly - lucky you CountryLifestyle having a 'gorgeous in personality' BC. The last email I sent to her was on Thursday about the door and didn't hear anything from her till yesterday (Tuesday). We only found out our SS's name b/c the girl in accounts called us on Monday to check that we got the invoice and I chatted with her about the frame and she said we should contact our SS (whom at that time we had no contact detail for) and she said she'd contact our SS and BC for us. I think the 24/7 portal would have been great and I'm surprised it is taking them so long to get something like this up and running again. We got our log in details and then they shut it down. From our experience we had one message from the slab supervisor to tell us that the slab pour was happening (and our BC letting us know the date of the slab pour). We only know about the frame and guttering because we are driving past (and getting the slab and frame invoices!) If we didn't live close we'd have no idea what was going on. We're not worried either way about the window garage thing, but figured if the window was there it might be on their plans and we'd be happy to have this 'mistake' if it was a mistake, especially since it was delivered and as our BC said: "any material on site is required for areas specified on the plans" so what is on the plans to make them send this window as we don't have any windows this size at all??? So if it's not on the plans why is it there? If it's not on the plans why haven't they finished the frame at the back of the garage? Weird. Hopefully we'll have some answers today? We are happy either way, just would like to know one way or the other and want to know when the frame will be finished. Re: Porter Davis homes 8525Nov 20, 2013 9:09 am inglewood Guttering is on and pipes are in. Moving along nicely. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Just not sure what is happening with the frame at the back of the garage. Our plans have a single door (we forgot to put in a window) but the door frame has not been put in and there's a window sitting in the garage along with the door frame - both of which would fit in the gap in the frame (btw - we have the frame invoice even though in our opinion it's not finished yet) We emailed our BC to ask about the window - wondered if their plans were wrong (b/c it's not like that's never happened before according to others on here), and if so, we are more than happy for them to put in the window. She stated that "Your house will be built as per the plans, any material on site is required for areas specified on the plans. We are unable to accommodate any structural changes at this stage of the construction process." so we are wondering where the heck that window will be going (as we don't have any windows that size on the plans and all windows are in) and why on earth was it delivered if it was "specified on the plans"? So we are waiting to hear from our site supervisor to find out what is going on, and if they can just be done with and put the window in. If not, we'll think about putting in a new door afterwards with a window on it. We're not worried either way, but figured if the window was there it might be on their plans (as a mistake) but we are happy with this "mistake" and will gladly help them out by having the window - if not, put the door in and finish the frame. Weird. My build was plagued by version control issues, with different drawings used by almost every sub contractor. Save yourself a lot of pain and worry and just eyeball the papers ASAP. HD Re: Porter Davis homes 8526Nov 20, 2013 9:11 am BTW, a minor mistake in one part of your plans could be an indication of more significant problems later on. The garage window might not be an issue but if the documents are wrong you could find bigger issues later (we did). HD Re: Porter Davis homes 8528Nov 20, 2013 9:46 am My site cut was done yesterday and slab is scheduled to be poured on the 27th (I can't remember the last time I felt sooo excited! I am an old chick so it was many many moons ago!). Re: Porter Davis homes 8530Nov 20, 2013 11:38 am Hubby just heard from our SS. Roofing is being done today (might need to do a drive by ). Bricks will start on Monday. Lock up is expected to be the 6th of Dec. Garage back wall frame is sorted and window taken away - so we'll get a door with a window sometime down the track if we feel we need it. Glad to know what is going on! I definitely think that is correct - he prob did get in trouble - but in fairness to him, none of the problems have been his fault. He has inherited most due to errors in plans / soil test etc.... That said, I feel I have a gun pointed at my head at the moment so will wait til things calm down from our "disagreement" on the phone this morning... Might reveal in my blog lol... Annoying.... Re: Porter Davis homes 8533Nov 20, 2013 12:06 pm clairemumto5 Hi Adj - we haven't had anything happen on site since staircase went in last thurs and friday. Bit frustrated. As far as SS goes - our calls every wednesday, and I will occasionally txt him at other time during the week and he will reply usually soon or call back, I try not to call him and just have a list of things to check with him when he calls on a wednesday, like our bc who sent us an update on monday which said cabinets were installed, so I rushed over excited to check but she must have been misinformed as no cabinets are in now that we can see. Both get back to me timely both are approachable, so have no complaints in that respect just feels like build is maybe put on the backburner while they maybe try finish ones that can be finished before chrissy which is annoying...but what can you do Lucky you! I started getting this type of information. The information hasn't been as forthcoming of late... My BC has just left. She was amazing... I haven't really had too much contact with the new one yet. Im sure she is fine. I just want my old BC to come back Re: Porter Davis homes 8534Nov 20, 2013 12:41 pm CountryLifestyle- yes, please start a thread! I didn't realise you were actutally at site start! Which house are you building? Just had a look at your blog. It's all looking beautiful. We've chosen similar colours inside too! Love the tiles to the ceiling - wish we'd thought of that Re: Porter Davis homes 8539Nov 20, 2013 3:38 pm Had my regular wed call - this morning during work so I had to make it quick...tilers were onsite today - but due to some problems with the gutters they couldn't finish today the gutter man should be back to finish tomorrow and the tilers Friday which means garage and alfresco will be finished off, they did however replace the missing tile from roof where scaffolding had been...and renderer was onsite again today, the exterior should be mostly finished by end of next week apart from smaller things like painting doors etc. Delay on cabinetry...so it should be going in mid next week, but got to see the stairs properly today they come up good even if they are the standard ones. was nice to see stuff happening again, we never should have moved as close as we did Re: Porter Davis homes 8540Nov 20, 2013 3:50 pm Things are getting closer for us.
