Browse Forums Building A New House Porter Davis homes 5121Apr 17, 2012 12:52 pm Yeah, profits not into our economy, but debt associated with it is. Good one guys Re: Porter Davis homes 5122Apr 17, 2012 2:25 pm We are currently building with Porter Davis Homes Prestige, in our opinion they give you the best the value for your dollar. This is our third home in 6 years, totally professional. Yes at times errors can occur, pointing out the issues can be rectified quickly should clam heads prevail. There has been rumor & innuendo regarding PD viability in the building sector, we have not noticed any slow down in the construction or panic in the voices of our construction supervisor or building coordinator, we are currently at painting stage & looking forward to the completion of our lovely PD home Re: Porter Davis homes 5125Apr 17, 2012 9:53 pm tstr1a JLD Ok, just found my colour selection doc and it definitely says Metal Black Powdercoat.....hmmmm not sure whether I should insist on change or whether we could be happy with the stained wood Anyone know if one is better than the other structure wise?? Powdercoat stringer Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Wooden Stringer Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I've got the same stair case contemparary option 1 and the stringer is wood. I'm my case I was hoping that they would install a wood stringer. The treated on a metal stinger are too exposed. Hey JLD & Tstr1a OMG - I have these stairs too and didn't even know know the mono stringer colour was an option to choose from. I ended up with the black in my selection doco. Funny as I am building the same house as the display with the wooden mono and selected the stairs from that display. I'm actually happy with the black as I'm going for a 'grey industrial' look in the home, but I guess the option to choose would be nice !! I'd say though just pick the colour you want and go for it. For what we paid, you should get what you want ! Rock on Mike Re: Porter Davis homes 5126Apr 17, 2012 10:08 pm Had a good conversation with our SS today and he's looking into some stuff for us. I've decided I'm happy with the stairs, SS thinks that they only do a painted stringer now anyway not powdercoated. Mikey the whole staircase thing has been odd from the beginning, no one could really ever show us a standard staircase for our house then working out which one was contemporary 1 or 2 etc....neither Sales, BC or Colour really had a clue. Our variation didn't make it to to the kitchen guy so a cupboard is in the wrong spot but will all get fixed. Bigger concern for me was the stone template which is showing a join in the island bench....SS said there is no obvious need for a join but will ask the question in case it's a structural issue. Fingers crossed it doesn't need one as the bench is 3 metres for a reason! We go away this Friday for 2 weeks so will be funny to come back to stuff having been done, like a surprise Apparently the fixing invoice will be issued this Friday and painters due to come in at some point next week. I expect that will take a couple of weeks (3 coats) and the tilers will take a couple too as we have a lot of tiles. A fair bit to go yet but getting excited Re: Porter Davis homes 5127Apr 17, 2012 10:44 pm Good luck JDL. We're about to finish. I picked up the final bank cheque yesterday. PS did their final inspection last week and I have my independent property inspector going through this week. Not sure when my PCI will be but hopefully everything will go to plan with settlement n 3 weeks. Then 3 weeks off work YAY !! Good luck all, I cant believe ho quick it has all gone and very happy with the comms and quality, as long as you know what you want and keep on the ball. regards Mike Re: Porter Davis homes 5128Apr 17, 2012 10:59 pm Thanks Mike. How exciting to be finished! Hope it all comes together at the last for you. Re: Porter Davis homes 5129Apr 18, 2012 8:22 am I agree no on knew nothing about the stair option... I has to work it out myself. I uploaded PD's staircase option booklet on my blog to help others. http://waldorf44.blogspot.com.au/search ... nformation Re: Porter Davis homes 5130Apr 18, 2012 9:17 am That's awesome Mikey_Harrison! My husband and I have been stalking this thread and some of your blogs for a while now. We will be building a Drysdale 30 in Mandalay Estate in Beveridge (Vic). It's not our first home but it is our first build, so we've already benefitted heaps from reading your experiences. Building is due to start in May. Last week we did our colour, electrical and tile selections and contract is tomorrow! I have started a blog (link in signature). I don't think it's very interesting yet but I've enjoyed reading everyone elses blogs and getting ideas and information, so hopefully ours can contribute to the great wealth of info around here Looking forward to sharing the experience! Welcome to the thread. I’ve just read your blog and I love your colour selections, very nice colour combinations. With the pivot door see if PD can install a “roller latch” (It cost around $10 at Bunning’s). I have a deadlock and pull handle installed with my pivot door and sometime when you go outside for a minute the wind will push the door open. A roller latch secures the door in place when you close it behind you (without locking the door) and you can easily push it open. Thanks for the tip, that's been one of my worries about the pull handle/deadlock combo, so we'll definitely ask about that tomorrow. Re: Porter Davis homes 5135Apr 18, 2012 5:18 pm Hey Monkeypants; nice choice there with the Drysdale30 . We love ours! Days away from handover now, very exciting. The valuer came through for our revaluation post settlement cheque - he said they put a good price on PD homes as being high quality. Ask away with any questions you have, I consider that we have been very thorough with our build and happy to help and share anythign you need just ask. Re: Porter Davis homes 5136Apr 18, 2012 5:18 pm Hi monkeypantz, I just started following your blog, your selections look great I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion: add a gadget for members/followers, it makes a tab that readers can press to start following. I look forward to watching your build get going, best of luck Re: Porter Davis homes 5137Apr 18, 2012 5:44 pm Hey again Monkeypants! Just finished reading through your blog; awesome. You have really gone to town with your upgrades And the front door - we have talked about ours so many times, just didn't even THINK to upgrade it to taller/wider/double doors until too late. But never mind, actually we love our look now - really cosy to our mind. I am excited to start watching your build come together over time. Enjoy.. I uploaded PD's staircase option booklet on my blog to help others. http://waldorf44.blogspot.com.au/search ... nformation Turns out they really don't...they have acknowledged they signed us up for a staircase they don't actually sell anymore. Not sure what the fix is going to be but they're looking into it. Sammyjane31 That's awesome Mikey_Harrison! Good luck with the PCI and the private inspection! Rups, I have added that gadget, thanks for the tip! bigbuild, it is a great floorplan . We have gone with a few big upgrades, hopefully it all pays off in the final product.
