Framing was completed last Thursday and took just under a week from start to finish. I've taken a quick look at it and from my limited experience it looks pretty good. We did make a number of changes to the room sizes early on, and these have been successfully captured. One minor issue is that in one of the rear rooms of the property, the Framer has assumed that a sliding door is to be installed when in fact its a large window, so as a result some of the framing is missing. However, this was highlighed to my SS and is planned to be fixed over the weekend. Also, my independant Framing inspection took place a couple of days ago and from what I was told as we walked around the home, with the exception of a few "minor" points, the framer seems to have done a good job. I am still waiting for the official report from him to see what issues there are, but at the moment I'm relatively happy with how the build is progressing especially after the shaky start. Some other points I'd like to share at this stage: 1. After the slab was poured the site was left in quite a mess and access around the permiter of the home was nearly impossible due to high mounds of dirt, concrete spill / run-off, etc !! However, whilst erecting the Frame, the framer and his gang removed all the rubbish and levelled the dirt around the home and it now looks 100% better, so thumbs up to PD. 2. If anyone is building the "Lifestyle" range and is currently at Slab Pour / Framing Stage, may I suggest that you speak to your CSA's and confirm that your brick selection order is ok. The reason I mention this is that apparently Boral are having a few problems with specific bricks and as a result are temporarily suspending and/or discontinueing them. In my case, I received a phone call from my SS telling me that my choice of brick was no longer possible and that I had to make another selection as they were unable to source them. After visiting Boral and choosing an alternative brick I was told by Boral that my new selection was also temporarily suspended !!! Not a great result especially when the Brickie is meant to start early next week !! Luckily, my situation seems to have been successfully resolved now but I wanted to share my experience with others, as changing a brick can (in some cases) affect the overall colour scheme of your home. My SS was very apologetic about this problem but as PD have no control over what products are or are not available from their Suppliers there isn't too much they can do to resolve issues such as these, so its worth checking in advance and maybe making a back-up choice in case you encounter a similar issue. Does anyone know who the Supplier is for this door? I will contact my CSA on Monday to ask but if anyone can advise beforehand that would be really helpful. 2. With regard to the Bi-Fold door which we've been given as part of our promotion, so far PD have only installed the outer frame for it. However, when we look at the external part of the tread plate (which makes up the lower portion of the frame), the timber used for it is made up of 3 sections fixed together. The issue we have is that the middle section seems to be of a completely different shade to the rest of the frame. As we intend on using an oil on the door & frame, our concern is that the end result is going to be very noticable. We understand that timber by its very nature has variation in it but given (i) in this particular case the difference in variation occurs within one section on the overall tread plate, and (ii) the large amount of variation between this middle section and the rest of the door frame, we don't feel that this represents the standard of finish for a PD home, and as such we feel that the supplier for the door should be open to replacing the tread plate. Are we being too fussy???? I have attached some images showing the issue and would welcome others comments on this. Yes, we are going to do that although are only concern was that we didn't know if we were just being too fussy. Hence why I thought I'd post the issue on here first in an attempt to get a feel for what others would do in a similar situation, and whether they felt that this would be simply classed as "natural variation" in the timber. I won't be at it so it's all up to hubby! In about a month we have our tile and colours at Hopetoun but I've just realised they are not on the same day like I thought. So we'll have to reschedule one of them as I can't get down to Melbourne twice in 4 days - I gather these appointments aren't the sort of place to take toddlers. It would be wonderful to be child free for 4 days but somehow I dont' think the grandparents will go for it. Can someone tell me about 24/7? We don't have access to it. Would it be usefuil in deciding on decore? I have no clue what I'd like in a home, depsite having been to heaps of displays. i guess the problem with them is that they aren't realistic and are over done. So it's hard to get a good feel for what I think suits us. The only thing we find it useful for is for a record of communication to and fro. It was a bit of fun watching us going through the various stages visually on 24/7 but that's about it. Your best bet is to have one full day at Hopetoun prior to your appointment. You can also whizz down the road to National Tiles. If you can do this without the kids, all the better. It's a long boring day for them. Trust your instincts, use natural light at the wndows and try not to get cranky with the pushy buggers who get in your way and pinch your samples!! haha I could also not make the Tile appointment, so Hubby went and also selected a couple of the tiles we had not settled on. From the samples he brought home he's done an amazing job! One person can do this quite well. The main appointment though is best done with both of you - even if like us you had everything written out and samples of everything. You will still make snap decisions on the spot. Best way to check out decor ideas is to have a play on the porter site with the different themes they have used in each display of the same home... the style finder is great as you can get a feel for colour schemes and decorating ideas. Good Luck!! Re: Porter Davis homes 1554Apr 10, 2011 8:07 pm Anyone else with Aluminium Windows.. I have a question... Did you notice rather large gaps in the window frames - particularly in the corners? The architraves have only just gone on and I am wondering how they fix this as it seems to be prevalent on all of the windows. Perhaps they fill the gaps with black silicone? (Our windows are black) I have a meeting with our SS next week so will ask him then, but the curiosity is getting the better of me.... Hi lastone, We visited both National Tiles and Hopetoun about four times prior to our selections appointments to get an idea on what was available to us and colours. We don't have children, however. Hopetoun and National tiles in port melbourne have childrens areas where there are toys and a tv with childrens movies playing. You know your child best so if you think they can be entertained for a couple of hours in this room, go for it as there is provision for it. The internet is a great tool to get an idea on what is available. We found too that studio M was a good website to visit as they have examples that you can mix and match colours in different areas (even though we aren't building through M'con found it was good to get an idea on interior and exterior colours - really wished PD had something like this as it was a useful tool). check out http://www.studiom.com.au/home. RE 24/7 website, you would have received a letter from your CSC not long after you signed up. Speak to your CSC for access, they should be able to help.
