The house design we chose was the Dunhill, as it has garage and alfresco are on opposite sides (it's a corner block) we have been given a preliminary quote which is almost at our budget when including site fees, regional fees and bushfire levy. (alone these fees are $30,000) Couple of questions I had for anyone who can help: Theres a promotion currently that upgrades the facade re: render, yet we have still been quoted the full amount on the chosen facade, is the promotion just a gimmick? If purchasing an upgrade facade, are the bricks/tiles upgraded as well or do they both start at category 1 despite facade chosen? Does anyone know the cost of: 1) adding a bulkhead to the kitchen over the bench top 2) the cost of waterfall edges to bench top 3) changing wardrobe doors to sliding doors 4) cheaper electrical options for down lights rather that the $150 each i have been quoted by PD Re: Porter Davis homes 5023Apr 07, 2012 4:37 pm choccontain Hi everyone, I have been reading up on here heaps and have finally made a choice and we have decided on porter davis, we paid the $1000 to start the ball rolling, our block is an upsloping block so we have our fingers crossed the site costs aren't ridiculous, originally had a custom plan to suit the block but it came back at $100,000 over budget before upgrades so had to scrap it and move onto plan B. If purchasing an upgrade facade, are the bricks/tiles upgraded as well or do they both start at category 1 despite facade chosen? Hi choccontain, Welcome! The facade you choose does not come with any textured finishings or upgraded category selections. That is, the upgrade to a particular facade gives you its style, in cat 1 brick. If you are building in a new estate, you will generally have design covenants that may require a certain quantity of varying textures to your facade. So, to simplify things, builders usually include some render to the projection on your facade in a promotion (as this will satisfy most estate design guidelines). You can then change this to tiles / cladding / different brick etc or extend it to other parts of the facade - all at a cost, of course. Porter Davis homes 5026Apr 09, 2012 3:57 pm We will seal our tiles ourselves. At colours the guy suggested you are able to do it as a spray or a paint from Bunnings even! We will do it after handover and before we move in. We especially want the tiled splash back behind the cook top sealed! Re: Porter Davis homes 5027Apr 09, 2012 4:50 pm We will be sealing our tiles ourselves post handover and buying it from either National Tiles or Bunnings. We have feature tiles in the shower and behind both bathroom sinks. We were advised by the tiles rep to seal the shower twice a year and the sinks once as they wont get wet. There are so many things to take into consideration when building a house and the forum is a great community of people who have already been through some of the steps and stages you are going through at the moment, they'll be able to give you some honest feedback and tips on the build process. It’s great to see that some forum members have been able to answer some of your questions, if you are still stuck I’d be happy to follow anything up for you and have your Sales Consultant or Building Coordinator get in contact with you, they are the best people to speak with regarding certain aspects of your build. Or you can private message me and I can also help where possible. Good luck. Cheers, Ebony Porter Davis Homes Questions? Porter Davis homes 5031Apr 11, 2012 8:05 am Hey guys we have been in our house for a month. We have issues with the house and not much communication. Something very wrong with our gutters and downpipes, apparently they are there just for looks. They are not draining so when it rains it spills over, they sent a plumber out but it was not fixed so this indicates to me there is a serious problem. It's been 3 weeks since the plumber has been. We turned on the evap cooler works fine till you go outside and all the water that is supposed to go down the drain pipe is actually going over it on the outside and there for we have water down the side of the house. Our front door frame needs to be given its final paint, still waiting. Thanks We have holland roller blinds everywhere else except in the home theatre we have black roman blinds. We love plantation shutters, I wanted to have just a few and have them as features. Hence why we put them in the 2 voids (white) we went with walnut shutters in the toilet, ensuite and bathroom. We went with the blind factory and I am very happy with their service and price. If anyone is looking at home furnishing items, have a look at a store called Love Paris, in mordialloc main street, gorgeous stuff!! I could buy the whole store lol.
