Our Bayside KDR Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=78298 Re: Porter Davis homes 12064Nov 07, 2015 6:00 am As it goes down, about 10-30cm from the bottom it thinks it's hit something and fully opens. I attempted to reprogram the travel limits, but it really does not want to travel all the way down at all. Also looks to be excess slack in the belt too. So I'll need someone to look at it as it's not a simple fix. Porter Davis homes 12065Nov 07, 2015 11:23 pm Six months on from signing our contract with Porter Davis and many delays later looks like our land is *finally* about to title. And the gates are now down so at long last we'll be able to get down to it. Disappointing that a pre-Christmas start is now pretty unlikely but trying to keep positive by thinking of us in there by next Christmas - with the puppy we are eagerly anticipating getting once we move in! This building game sure teaches patience, I'm sure this isn't the end of that either. Man, you're having a crap run... The cabinetry, etc as you point out is easy enough to fix... The mortar and brickwork on the otherhand, no idea - maybe they can remove 1/2 an inch of mortar and repoint it all to match the color, and fix the joints themselves... Look forward to reading your next update ... You're certainly giving need things to watch for... Look forward to reading your next update ... You're certainly giving need things to watch for... Yes, it's all been very demoralising. We're so over this house build now it's not funny. I just can't believe that after all this time and the amount of problems and mistakes that have been made previously, that nothing appears to have changed and it's business as usual. I don't understand why Porter Davis don't actually check the quality or accuracy of the work done prior to getting the customer onsite for inspection. They must be aware of the standards and tolerances the same as the independent inspector. If something is so glaringly obviously wrong - like the patched mortar or blowouts by the front door, then why aren't they identified internally and the inspection postponed until they are rectified. I understand there will always be problems, but surely those that stick out like a sore thumb shouldn't need an independent inspector to identify them. Re: Porter Davis homes 12070Nov 17, 2015 6:34 pm Had some dramas with the crossover. One of the tradies called it quits mid way through the pour. The man down in terms of man power when you're fighting concrete that is setting and waits for no one was a battle they were never going to win. They (and the council) said that they'd rip up all 22m of it and do it again. Which is just as well, as we have an artist in the area (I have my suspicions as to whom) who left a rough picture of, well, male genitalia on the cross over. So, to that end, can anyone recommend some good infrared IP cameras (ideally that work through double glazing) that work with a QNAP NAS? I'd like to be able to record any potential artwork in the making, as I'm sure a whole new driveway is too good an opportunity for them to be able to pass up. We've been told it's going to cost us $1500 (exc. the cost of the window that needs to be added) *Includes a revised energy rating report. Is it a fixed price? Re: Porter Davis homes 12073Nov 20, 2015 4:23 pm Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been an avid reader as we are first time builders with Porter Davis. We're been getting loads of tips from various blogs which has been great! We're building the Sandarah and have just had our colour selection appointments at WOS. Can anyone tell me how accurate the prices at WOS are? Am I likely to get bill shock when I get to the tender? We've been told that we will get credit for some items so I'm hoping the price will go down and not up! Thanks, Kim Re: Porter Davis homes 12074Nov 20, 2015 4:40 pm Kimsta Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been an avid reader as we are first time builders with Porter Davis. Thanks, Kim Hi Kimsta, we are building an Access range home so bypassed the tender appointment but after our WOS appointment we were given credit on the carpet upgrade but were misquoted a few hundred on the extra tiles in our bathroom and ensuite. All up the difference was - $3000, we were pleasantly surprised. Re: Porter Davis homes 12076Nov 21, 2015 8:33 pm Broke into a few building sites today in Armstrong Creek that have the Vienna 19's. Nice little houses for a first home buyer, especially since i am looking for my first home and think I was running my expectations a little high before looking at these. Anybody else who is building these care to share how much they ended up spending on upgrades? Want to try and get a ball park figure for upgrades on top of the H&L package price Re: Porter Davis homes 12077Nov 22, 2015 1:11 am dojrude You really are having a shocking run dojrude. We are also having issues with the quality of our insulation installation (areas not done, poor installation with insulation stuffed in and not cut to size, or shaped around wiring/pipes/ducts etc), with Bradford coming back this week for a second go at it. Like you, there's large areas supposedly being left for downlights, but they don't match up exactly with our electrical diagrams (understandably as the wires have only been 'roughed in'). There really are quite large areas being left without soundscreen making me wonder how effective my very expensive sound screen will now be. Does anyone know how much clearance is meant to be left around insulation for the down lights? I didn't think there needed to be much for the newer ones. Also, does anyone know how important it is for between floor sound screen insulation to be cut to size as compared to being just stuffed in? Could anyone direct me to the relevant regulations and/or installation guidelines? TIA KDR Chadwick 41+ Re: Porter Davis homes 12078Nov 22, 2015 8:54 am If the down lights have those little plastic domes over them, the insulation can be cut flush with the dome... My last house was like this, with halogens... No issues at all Sounds like your other issue is a lazy installer. Any space without insulation is a conductor of heat or sound, simples! Yes we are, but I'm keeping on top of it all. Fingers crossed that once everything is addressed, we'll have a fantastic house. I dread to think how it would have turned out if we didn't have an independent inspector. Re: Porter Davis homes 12080Nov 22, 2015 2:50 pm Drew01 Sounds like your other issue is a lazy installer. Any space without insulation is a conductor of heat or sound, simples! Yes that's my concern. Leaving 30+cm gaps in our Soundscreen means the sound won't be blocked. Has anyone who's built with PD had experience with how they should do the insulation?
