Browse Forums Building A New House Porter Davis homes 12221Feb 12, 2016 5:43 pm I just feel so let down and all the excitement has fizzled now this is probably the worst of it but there's more doom & gloom in the other pages too. I mean, do they think we're dumb? Talk about taking people for a ride. BTW that sucks and how is that excuse even relevant or acceptable!!! Re: Porter Davis homes 12223Feb 12, 2016 6:43 pm would anyone be able to tell me approximatly what the cost in upgrade is for a category 3 bathroom tile? i understand each bathroom is different however if you can provide me with a guide or even what information you have that would be fantastic. Thanks Re: Porter Davis homes 12224Feb 12, 2016 7:20 pm lizbf85 was this found in their indipendant people that come out to check at each stage??? we are seriously considering having someone of our own also, as im not sure if their indepenant is really that independant. what would be your advice? Not sure if I would trust theirs. hmmmm not good!!! i think this might be worth investing in also! who are you using? and if you dont mind me asking how much do you pay for someone aside from PD im already getting frustrated with our 'building coordinator' who cant answer any questions we have no matter how simple they are, we are already scared at what lays ahead... im feeling very frustrated also at the lack of help anyone is willing to provide its like they want to make everything difficult and cant answer questions about next steps, selections or pricing .. Like today at WOS..... spoke to a girl who was mind you very helpful in tiles and actually gave me a good guide on price, then followed this with kitchens. I soon came to realise that upgrades were necessary in the kitchen...this lady informed me no prices are given on Saturdays and i my reply was to inform her that i begged to differ as tiles were able to help me with prices..... seriously! i really do not understand their whole approach to this 'price' issue, why waste my time and yours beating around the bush, if we can have the guides and facts wouldn't the appointments be more successful???? this actually blows my mind..... this is the best part, the lady advised because i didn't have my sample of my floor that i couldn't choose my kitchen today... lady are you kidding me!!! couldn't have made it more difficult if she tried.....exhausting!! Re: Porter Davis homes 12226Feb 13, 2016 7:44 pm Tiles and kitchen are actually different companies but under the WoS experience. Kitchen gave us a very vague estimate (which was way out), I don't think we got one from tiles. They don't like to give out pricing because it depends a lot on your plans and obviously there's a lot of variance. It sucks but I do kinda get the logic. We're using Darbecca for inspections. I think all up (not including reinspections which we weren't counting on) it was going to be two and an half (?) thousand for the lot - but go to their website to confirm that . Money well spent given what's been discovered in the first two. The kitchen however was just unhelpful. kitchens are kitchens bench, cabinets etc guides at least could be at least given, even on selections they cant tell you which again wastes not on your time but theirs especially when you need to make changed then at tender .. anyway winge for my night done... i suppose had the experience so far been a little easier in terms of getting answers to our questions today would have been just one of those things.... the attitudes stink thanks! wow i heard around $500 so i best get looking into it thank you Re: Porter Davis homes 12228Feb 13, 2016 8:03 pm lizbf85 thewoodies Tiles and kitchen are actually different companies but under the WoS experience. Even knowing our house type they still underestimated the kitchen cupboard upgrade significantly - honestly I'd have preferred it if they hadn't got our hopes up lol. I mean, we went ahead regardless but it was upsetting as we then had to make compromises elsewhere. Selections was average, as we were argued with about upgrading items such as shower rails and sinks (which we have in writing you can get them to purchase from Reece anything that Reece sell)... Colors were easy, as we did them on a weekend 6 weeks earlier Wardrobes was a walk in the park, as there were only so many combinations we could fit in the spaces... Tiles were great, kitchen was awesome, as our specific needs were designed for access costed on the spot... Electrical was a bloody nightmare... I've never come across a more incompetent process and people running it... The Argus staff claim they can't give you a unit price for any given item, yet they can give you a ridiculous total price they are unable to justify... Reminded us very much of the travel agent on Little Britain... "Computer Says No..." We've subsequently asked our appointed BC for a unit price breakdown for electrical, and been sent a soft copy of the number of items, but no prices aside from the total... Very frustrating... That's strange about Argus. Not only were we told the price of each individual item, we were able to watch the price growing on her computer as we added each light, light switch, etc. It was probably the section where we felt most in control. Disappointing that you didn't have a similar experience. That is so weird we were given prices then and there. For example to move a downlight it would cost $15 everything was itemized on the computer right in front of us. The thing is, I think PD are clever at lulling people into a false sense of security. As a first time builder it wasn't even something on my radar until I read here - of course then it seemed totally obvious. Madness. I agree that inspections are usually worth the investment, especially if you have limited construction knowledge. However, the inspections themselves do not guarantee a build that is 100% compliant with the contract or to the applicable standard. There are many 'subjective' standards, and if the builder is not willing to remedy, then you have to be willing to face extra delays/costs and an adversarial relationship to possibly achieve the desired outcome.
