How are things going with your build, haven't seen any updates on your blog for a while? Building a Kew 28 with Porter Davis Re: Porter Davis homes 15567Oct 13, 2017 5:25 pm So we just had a call from World of Style - our appointment is next Friday. They told my husband on the phone that we are meant to 100% know everything that we want before the day and the day is just confirming choices. Does that sound right? We have been a few times and yes do know a lot of our choices. But at the same time, we also don't know costings, some of the staff weren't very helpful etc. I was under the impression they help us make these choices on the day, guide us so to speak. Have I mis-understand? Re: Porter Davis homes 15568Oct 13, 2017 5:39 pm goldencrumble So we just had a call from World of Style - our appointment is next Friday. Have I mis-understand? On the day we had full price disclosure for electrical and that was great. Tiles I had to give several options for what I wanted and then she had to go back and forth changing the document based on our price changes. Colour selection was almost fully upfront except for carpet which they had to calculate but still missed a room. Many of the stone selections you are given rough prices on as it is not actually confirmed until the kitchen culture appointment. Take your time if you are unsure about anything. It's your colour appointment......make sure you are happy. Be prepared that contract will be quite some time away though. We had our WOS on September 27th and the first available contract appointment was not until November 13. Good luck journeytotheplaza.wordpress.com Re: Porter Davis homes 15569Oct 13, 2017 6:08 pm goldencrumble So we just had a call from World of Style - our appointment is next Friday. But at the same time, we also don't know costings, some of the staff weren't very helpful etc. I was under the impression they help us make these choices on the day, guide us so to speak. Have I mis-understand? I think they're probably trying to ensure that people don't just rock up for the first time on their WoS day and have nothing at all picked out. Apart from anything else there is a bunch of stuff that the stuff didn't even talk to us about when we went there previously so you've got zero chance of having 100% of things picked out. If you've been a few times and you have most of your choices picked out which is sound like you have then you should be fine. The main things which we had issues with on the day were picking out stuff for the laundry which we'd never thought about before that day and no one had mentioned, carpet because they can't give you a price and you don't know how much it will cost to upgrade, and how we wanted our cupboards and drawers in the kitchen laid out. My tips would be to have the things that are important to you sorted out in advance (for us/me this was electrical) and ideally know what colours/materials you want as well. Everyone has a different experience but I found the electrical department to be pretty good, tiling and bathroom as well, kitchen/laundry was ok with a lot of stuffing around, and colours/carpets/flooring frustrating because of the lack of clarity on pricing. I would assume that a lot of the issue with carpet/flooring is that your presenter doesn't know just how much of your place will have carpets etc so while they can give a square meter price they don't know if you have 200 sqm of carpet or 100sqm and it obviously makes a difference. Same with tiling etc if you are going for anything above what is included in your package, and they may not know what package you have either. We were lucky in that everything we wanted in tiling was Cat 1 and included in our package apart from a few extra bits in bathrooms and laundry which was less than $500. You have reminded me that I need to remind him to do it (his math is very good, mine very bad haha!). One key take was there we no plantation shutters in either house. Quite a change from every display home having them. The other was the amount of manufatured marble used extensively. Re: Porter Davis homes 15579Oct 15, 2017 9:39 pm Hi Today went to see the flooring options at WOS. Interested in the french oak timber collection. However, the price of $250 per sq meter seemed to be over the top and now seriously considering doing flooring post build. Anyone has experience in that? What are the things to consider if flooring is to be done post build? Is there anything that needs to be specified as part of signing the contract, etc? Thank you. FrenchOak lay there floor after the the skirts are installed and cork around the edges so no quad. Make sure you tell WOS to install and paint skirts otherwise they won't just tell them your installing tiles Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12337 Ask for references and speak to them.
