Hey Matt,
Agree with T and J&C's advice... It's your money and it's your house. Stick to your guns, keep track of your emails (put all dialogue in writing) and ask all the questions you need. You're the one that needs to be comfortable with the commitment and clear with your expectations - make no assumptions.
A good avenue, as J&C suggested, is use your SC. They don't have their commish yet... Make them earn it.
