Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 16722Mar 21, 2018 11:26 am ![]() Hi, Does anyone have the standard height for the garage ceiling? I was asking about the amount charged for our eaves as it says ‘eaves to upper storey and garage’ in the contract but the eaves were only done in the upper storey as the drawings did not have it in the garage. Our BC replied with the following: You have not been charged for the eaves on the Garage, and I believe the reason they were not needed is because the garage ceiling height was higher than the standard. Is there anyway to really check if we were not charged for it? Thanks. Hi, Our standard was 2535mm, we had to raise the ceiling height to 2707 mm to be able to get a 2340mm garage internal access door into the house. Following are the before and after diagrams, our garage parapet moulding went a bit high and got misaligned with other part of the house due to this. But we decided to live with it. Birk did the initial quote for $11K (lol) and we aren't going with them, but they helped us choose the fabrics. We want to do the exact same runner style.. Any info will be fantastic! How’s they’re delivery timing? Is it on time? I’m looking at plantation shutters and it’s sating delivery will take 40-50days. The house wasnt ready and at no charge the blinds were held for me and delivered as per my instructions the day before installation. see more About the hoffman – Building the hoffman https://hoffmangoldwithporterdavis.wordpress.com/about/ Re: Porter Davis homes 16727Mar 23, 2018 7:05 am Just a quick word of advice, make sure you take photos of all of your driveway and footpath now as you may need them at the end of the build when your discussing who pays for thier replacement with PD. see more About the hoffman – Building the hoffman https://hoffmangoldwithporterdavis.wordpress.com/about/ Re: Porter Davis homes 16729Mar 23, 2018 7:52 am ![]() Was anyone able to coax the argus/electrical guys to add additional power points/leds or even change the basic switches with good ones when they did the electricals?? It's much cheaper to get it done after handover... Often by a factor of up to 10x the cost price of the item Hi Drew, I am just gonna buy the hardware and give it to the sparky? I know going through Argus is a ripoff. The Argus sales consultant was like .. you can get the tradie a stubby and ask them to do it.. and you will save a lot of money... I was wondering if anyone actually did it that way.. You pretty much need an electrician who is willing to do the extra stuff for you and a site supervisor who is ok to turn a blind eye to it. And be around at the right time to talk to the electrician about doing it. Given the mixed reports of communication styles of site supervisors on here from returning phone calls twenty minutes later to two weeks later it's a gamble as to whether it would work out for you or not. Been a bit worried lately with the massive negativity on the Facebook groups! We have had 3 BCs so far, handover is a bit over a week and a half away so hopefully no more! I would have to say it's not ideal having your BC quit just before contract, most of their work seems to be done leading up to and around that time but if nothing has changed since tender or WoS it will probably be fine. I would have to say it's not ideal having your BC quit just before contract, most of their work seems to be done leading up to and around that time but if nothing has changed since tender or WoS it will probably be fine. There was a lot of messing around after WoS, as they kept stuffing things up and writing the wrong things down - and I kept making them redo it - not leaving it up to chance.... So i think we will be all good there, however, there were a few things I gave to our BC who wrote them on the change request wrong, so I am waiting for the new one to make contact, then I will re-convey all my questions again and have them resolved. Fingers crossed.
