Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 20, 2011 9:12 pm Hi, The next door neighbor has finished there build and is now requesting the 50% of the costs for fencing. They have also advised they'd prefer a colourbond fence. While I don't mind paying the 50%, the issue is my build has not started yet while his has completed. Both our garages will be against the boundary, the difference is his is 6m back from the footpath, while my one is 6.35m back from the kerb, both are 6m long. How does it work when you have a small section of the two garages not overlapping? Do you just build the fence on the side of the boundary that does not have the garage there? Thanks Re: Building a fence with an unbuilt house on one side. 2Jul 20, 2011 10:44 pm I assume you mean the garages will abutt each other, and his would be further to the rear. Perhaps his main concern is to enclose his back yard in which case you might be able to do a deal where the rearwards part of the fence is done now and the forwards part after you build. Re: Building a fence with an unbuilt house on one side. 3Jul 21, 2011 8:08 am Hi, We have just been in a similar situation, we have finished build & wanted some fencing for privacy but neighbor's garage wall will be on zero boundary so we just brought fence back from rear 11 mtrs & will finish when their house is completed. They will be starting in the next few months so isn't really an issue. Got a life, just can't find it! That is correct, they will be abutt but my garage would by 35cm further back then his. Doing the rear section only may be a good idea. Re: Building a fence with an unbuilt house on one side. 5Jul 21, 2011 11:38 am Make sure you both have guttering on top of the bricks rather than hanging over .. and also consider how any gap between the 0 offset garages will be kept clean, if there will be a gap. We have two houses on my street where the builders put the gutters on top of each other over the boundary, and left a 10cm gap between the walls.
