Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 19, 2011 10:59 pm I went to do a Pre-admission and it went horribly wrong. I attended the pre-inspection on the 9th of July with my partner and the builder and his wife attended, before we started he told my partner since he was not on the contract he was to say nothing and shut up. I started with pointing out that the finishing on the render wasn’t very good he wasn’t happy then we proceeded into house when I noticed a crack above the staircase he informed me that it was up to me to fix it for I was putting the last coat on I disagreed and so did my partner, he then helped my partner out of the house and locked the door I then told him I would not continue with the inspection he then informed me I was not getting the house and to leave which I did, he then got me to come back in and we continued to do the inspection trying to cut it short it got pretty nasty with his wife yelling in my face so I told them I was not going to continue so I tried to go out the sliding door when his wife block the entry then I tried going out the front door and she blocked that door as well with feeling trapped and in panic I slapped her, so I eventually was able to get out and I report to the police what happened. She charged me with assault and the police dropped the charge. So now I’ve organize an independent building inspector to carry out the inspection but the builders have refused and have told them that I need to pay them the final payment. My concern is that I never completed the inspection and there was a lot more that needed fixing that I didn’t get the option to inform them plus at the time of the inspection the carpets weren’t in the staircase hadn’t been painted and laundry doors weren’t on plus the floor boards were covered for painting so I don’t know as to the condition of them. Do I have to make that final payment or am I entitled to get the house inspected properly. The builder informed me by letter that the inspection we had done was it and that payment needs to happen by the 23rd or I’ll get charged interest. I did email him letter him know that the inspector would be contact with to organise a time which he never responded to. He has also closed his franchise. Where do I stand for the BSA can’t get involved till 6 months after the handover. Please help Final payment - practical completion stage 2Jul 19, 2011 11:46 pm I am so sorry you have had this experience Who is your builder? Can you escalate it? You are entitled to get independent inspections. I strongly suggest you do this as this person seems untrustworthy. I would seek advice from your solicitor straight away and don't pay another cent until the independent inspection has been done, with problems rectified.
