Hi all,
We're rebuilding a new home in Carnegie, on the site of our old weatherboard. As its in a flooding overlay, we've had to build the floor 1 metre off the ground (and don't get me started on Melbourne Water...). After many delays, strip footings and screw piles are in, and base bricks and piers have just about been finished.
My question is about the brick piers. In our contract, it describes that our foundation will, among other things have "Double base brickwork with piers to Australian Standard". So I'm thinking there will be a double brick base on top of the footings. Here is what we've actually got:

- ie single brick piers around the inside perimeter of a single brick shell. The only way they appear to be tied into the outer bricks is via some wire connectors that are mortared into place between the bricks. Has anyone got experience with how solid this solution is likely to be, and should I be pushing to either get double brick provided or a reduction in contract cost?
Thanks for any insight you can provide!
