Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 19, 2011 12:03 am Omg....when does the building process start being fun again?!! Designing the exterior for my house is hurting my brain! We have decided to render the left side of the facade and brick the rest with a timber feature pillar and a tiled feature pillar on the patio. We want a timber front door, porch and garage door and I cant for the life of me create a colour scheme around all that, that I'm happy with. Someone please help! The two bricks we favour are PGH Summervilla Vanilla or Pearl Grey. The roof tile range we have to select from is the Monier Elabana series. Savvy designers go for gold creating my exterior. Many thanks! xx Building the St Thomas with Fairmont Homes NSW!! Final stages now! Should be in by Christmas wheeeeeee!! Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 3Jul 19, 2011 10:18 pm i wouldnt be using to many different types of material. usually two material is the limit. Ie brick and render, or brick and feature tile/stack stone. When you go three or more you r over doing it. Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 4Jul 19, 2011 10:42 pm Got a pic of the facade?
What type of wood colour, I think the garage doors come in cedar and caoba? and I guess you'd want all the wood features to match? Have you tried to use http://www.studiom.com.au/envisage Online visualiser where you can try lots of different combos Lean towards browns or greys? Light or dark? Some more info would be good Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 5Jul 20, 2011 12:04 am oooh thank you ive been trying to find a program like that. I want lighter colours, definitely browns but all the "browns" I like other people call grey so maybe Im colourblind and the whole colourscheme could end up being disastrous hehe. I like the Coaba garage door but the choice for that will prob come down to which timbergrain blends nicest with the brick. Here a pic of the designers facade. Hope that link works, i don't really understand the whole photosharing biz yet. Building the St Thomas with Fairmont Homes NSW!! Final stages now! Should be in by Christmas wheeeeeee!! Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 9Jul 20, 2011 1:41 pm hahaha we have identical taste! these are the two bricks im currently deliberating over however i can't quite find a render that suits. Any ideas? I was looking at the mocha tile for the roof but i dont think it's dark enough, perhaps barramundi? Leaning towards darker window frames as well. Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 10Jul 20, 2011 1:57 pm I went and saw both of these bricks at PGH and brought samples home. We ended up going with Pearl Grey as vanilla threw pinks in some lights. Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 11Jul 20, 2011 1:57 pm oh and if you like pearl grey, cement is the exact same colour just in a smoother face brick. Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 12Jul 20, 2011 2:22 pm thanks yeah i noticed in my photos that the vanilla took on a pink look. I have to choose from Boral, PGA or Austral and whilst it sounds like a huge range I am struggling to find a beige brick that doesnt take on a pink or orange tone. Any ideas anyone? Any ideas? I was looking at the mocha tile for the roof but i dont think it's dark enough, perhaps barramundi? Leaning towards darker window frames as well. Haven't seen mocha tile on a house, but have seen barramundi, it's really nice. When you say tiled pillar, what kind? The facade pic says stackstone? What about colorbond dune as a render? Kind of light browny grey. Jasper (colorbond) windows? Dune and Jasper go really well together and I think both would tie in with the bricks and roof and feature timber. Tiles, has me stumped, but if it is stackstone I've seen ones that have the lighter beigey colours with darker browns and charcoals, would link all the colours. I'm trying to help... going to put a call out for others... HELP!!!! hopefully 'they' hear. Re: Hitting my head against the bricks! 14Jul 22, 2011 6:27 pm There's a couple building with Fairmont who got a colour consultant to help and said she was worth every penny, even doing up an image of what their house will look like. Check out the details on their blog: http://drewandrenee.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... tions.html And if you see a display home you like the colour palette of, you can always ask the staff what their colours are. Also, some brick/roofing places have free colour consultations (just beware that their advice will be biased as they want your business). Some colour tips of my own: pick a strong feature colour you love for a small portion of the facade, then choose neutrals (white, cream, black, grey, brown etc) in the same tone i.e. warm or cool (warm colours are usually yellow-toned, just imagine them going with gold jewellery; and cool tones are usually blue-toned, matching silver jewellery) and you can't go wrong. One last tip: colours for the outside usually look about three shades lighter than the swatch cos of the sun (even more pronounced if facing a sunny direction like north). Good luck! DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair I'm in WA and our sandy soils make drainage a bit easier but this is what I'd be doing. Dig down to your footings and let the wall dry out. Clean it all well by brushing… 1 5193 6 4345 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9563 |
