Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 17, 2011 7:57 pm Ok, so we are on a rural block so im not worries about the blinds across the back of the house, but the front we have 6 windows - 3 large ones and 3 slightly smaller ones The large ones are 2500 x 1875 and the smaller ones are 1670x1875. I had plans on getting pre made timber slats from spotlight or somewhere like that. But my dilemma is the max span is 2400 so they dont make them wide enough, i called a few other places and they were all the same, my only option was to have 2 lots of timber slats to make up the full width of the window, So i got a quote for plantation shutters and i knew they would be a fair bit more $ but at $12500 for 6 rooms, it aint going to happen, not when i have an 80m driveway i would love to concrete. So what are my other options? I love the look of the timber slats but it appears i wont be able to have them Im kinda looking at block out curtains but i wanted to have them aswell as the timber slats especially in the boys rooms Are my only other options block out roller blinds and roman blinds? Ill be calling a few more places tomorrow, but for now, its doing my head in and would love some recommendations Our Acreage Build The Lakeview Lodge - Beechwood Homes 01/04/10 YES 2010 - Deposit paid 23/09 - PCI CANCELLED 28/09 - PCI - will it happen.-18 months later 07/10/11 - ITS OURS..WOOHOO Re: I need HELP with blinds - its doing my head in 2Jul 19, 2011 4:21 pm We have huge sliding door windows so I'm thinking either panel glide blinds or curtains. Re: I need HELP with blinds - its doing my head in 3Jul 19, 2011 4:39 pm Spewing to hear that your window is 100mm too big! We have roman blinds, they look lovely. They cover a sliding door which has a fixed pannel on either side. Because of the span we opted for three romans butted up next to eachother. Imo, it looks much better than expected (I can take a photo when I get home if you would like). Perhaps your timber slats can be butted up next to eachother, like my romans? It might not look too bad. I think an expanse of 2500mm is going to be quite restrictive for romans, they will be quite heavy. Im not sure what the size restrictions for roller blinds would be. It might be worth calling a few more consultants, try some small companies. In our case the smaller company we went with, blew away the large chain consultants in terms of cost and workable solutions. Re: I need HELP with blinds - its doing my head in 4Jul 21, 2011 1:18 pm Well i did find one company that would go that extra 100mm, but for the 6 windows it came in at $4k just for timber Venetians, the timber shutters were $14k for 6 windows and $3k for block out roller blinds as it also turns out there is another company who has a huge sale on and the timber shutters were $5200, so we are going with either sheets or blockout curtains for a few months and get the timber shutters. Although i would love a pic of our blinds butted up together. Wow what a great saving compared to your first quote!! Glad you found your solution. For us window coverings has been the most difficult to decide on, thinking of moving in with redishades or newspaper on the windows at this point! They do look better during the day, as the gap isnt so noticable because it doesnt have a night's sky behind it. Re: I need HELP with blinds - its doing my head in 9Jul 22, 2011 2:09 pm Thanks I've been interested in roman blinds also. We have a wider 1/2 length set on our bedroom window. They are mounted on the wall rather than inside the recess. They block the light better that way (ours are made of "blockout" material). I think they are a bit neater than curtains and a pelme. I can take a photo of these for you as well. Sorry, I didnt think of it last night.
