Browse Forums Building A New House Building in The Shire- Brickies start tomorrow - fingers cro 22Nov 06, 2011 4:04 pm Six weeks since slab and we're still waiting to see our street full of trucks and loads of work-people on site. So far we've seen a couple of scraggy brickies build a retaining wall, a lonely guy laying some ag lines, some painters to waterproof our retaining wall and not much else. I believe though, with a bit of optimism, that we will have some brickies on site tomorrow to start actually building our house. That would be nice! Our pool is done - only took two weeks for the pool dudes to excavate, plumb, and concrete our great looking pool & spa - love those pool dudes! Really looking forward to getting them back in to do all the tiling - in about 2 years' time! The company has been fantastic! Re: Build in The Shire- Brickies start 2moro - fingers cross 25Nov 07, 2011 2:32 pm Jealous of the pool !! Once they start progress should be pretty quick ( fingers crossed ) frustrating having no one on site day after day We are experiencing that again now we have reached lockup so I feel your pain Re: Build in The Shire- Brickies start 2moro - fingers cross 26Nov 07, 2011 3:48 pm Yippee - 5 bare-chested blokes on site this morning. And still there at 3.30 this afternoon. Couldn't be happier. Re: Build in The Shire- Brickies start 2moro - fingers cross 28Nov 13, 2011 4:08 pm Gogo! You'd think I'd have rushed down there with my camera but I didn't get down there til Saturday afternoon and they'd left. But they have been busy - we now have a garage. And I heard they even worked in the rain on Thursday AND Saturday morning. Our face bricks have arrived so I'll try to get around there this week with my camera. Re: Build in The Shire- Brickies start 2moro - fingers cross 29Nov 13, 2011 7:36 pm Hey there, Oh look at your lovely pool - that is just awesome, very jealous! Hope you see some speedy progress with your lovely bricks now. The weather forecast seems to be ok, so fingers crossed they pull their fingers out and get down to it! Mind me asking if you are near Sydney inner west/lower north shore? Are you pleased with your landscaper to date and would you recommend them? Cheers, Nina Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: Build in The Shire- Brickies start 2moro - fingers cross 30Nov 13, 2011 7:58 pm Ha ha, just noticed your thread title - did it change or was I completely oblivious before? Anyway, obviously not near inner/west, lower north shore! But we love them none-the-less And Nina - our landscapers have been fantastic so far - although they haven't had to do much so far...I'll PM you with their details of you like. They work all over Sydney - one of the guys is from South, one from Eastern Suburbs and the Landscape Architect is on the north side. They are a little on the expensive side but we got 4 quotes and there's was the most all-encompassing (and not actually the most expensive). They'd thought of everything and offered us plenty of great advice! And they've been available whenever we've asked them to come over and talk to our builder and the pool guys. Re: Build in The Shire- Landscape plan 33Nov 15, 2011 6:28 am Nina - here's our landscape plan.
The quote included all the plantings - quite a lot as we want to have trees planted around the perimeter to act as a privacy screen. We also had loads of retaining walls as we're on a slope. We are also on a slope.....but we did get the excavators to sort a couple of levels for us when they were there. Not sure how safe the informal retaining walls might be though (big rocks basically, perhaps ok). (Have asked landscapers to get in touch....thanks for that) Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: Build in The Shire- Lovin' the bricks 35Nov 20, 2011 4:25 pm Re: Building in the Shire - Lovin' the bricks 36Dec 05, 2011 7:08 pm Wow, Bignewadventure the bricks and the landscaping plan look great. Could you send me the lanscapers' details. I'm looking at getting quotes and plans drawn up. Thanks KDRB Carlingford, NSW Building Garden Retreat with MDJH Re: Building in the Shire - Lovin' the bricks 38Dec 17, 2011 8:46 am I'm hating the rain! Builders have called it quits for the year - back late January - if it ever stops raining. The frames were delivered 2 weeks ago, but with all the rain, they decided not to put them up before Xmas. So now I'll just not drive by for 4 weeks - it's too frustrating. The neighbours have asked us to the Street Xmas drinks but not sure if I could stand opposite our site with much Xmas cheer. We'll see how I feel about it next week! Happy Xmas to anyone who's reading this.. checking out until January. xx Re: Building in the Shire - Lovin' the bricks 39Dec 17, 2011 5:19 pm Oh BNA, It will all be worth it, We were so lucky they were able to start last week and will have slab next week, our guys don't finish till next week, so gives us a few days in case of rain. Chin up Merry Christmas and just think how wonderful Christmas 2012 will be Re: Building in the Shire - Lovin' the bricks 40Dec 20, 2011 5:31 pm Thanks Gogo, Yup, Xmas drinks on our driveway for 2012. Good luck on your slab - very exciting Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess.
