Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 14, 2011 1:55 pm Hey guys, I have a 33.5 sq porterdavis built house which is about 7 years old now. my family has grown and i need more space but i donot want to build a new house as i dont want to leave the estate iam at right now. Iam wondering if its possible to build a double storey on my single storey, maybe an extra 10 - 12 sq of living space. I need 2 extra bedrooms, Home thetre room and a games area is what iam thinking. Is it possible to build a double storey in to an existing single storey and what kind of costs am i looking at? Anyone know any consturction companies that specialise in this? Hope to hear from you. We had the plans drawn up and all the engineering done, we were adding a master bedroom with WIR and ensuite, a large study and a small living area, all upstairs. (oh and a balcony, too) At the same time we were also moving the kitchen from the front of the house to the back and turning the kitchen into a bedroom. A lot of internal work was going to happen also, adding stairs takes up lots of floorspace. We got to the quoting stage and realised it would cost the same to build new. It was going to cost over $200,000, way too much. If we had gone ahead we would have over capitalised big time! You will also need to check with covenants in your estate.
