Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 11, 2011 6:50 pm For those who have or about to build using a (waffle) pod slab, would you mind telling me what terminology the builder used in the tender/contract when discussing the style/type of slab? Thanks. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: A question for those with waffle pod slabs? 3Jul 11, 2011 7:36 pm Lex Just waffle pod ... but there was no discussion (because we almost didn't know what a slab was ) lol ... our variation of our slab stated "monolithic raft style slab with concrete piers" from a "raft slab with screw in piers" and I received a shock today to hear that we're getting a (waffle) pod slab. I've never heard it referred to as anything but a waffle pod slab and I find the terminology used by the builder and lack of explanation (even when questioned by me) as being misleading. Hence why I wanted to hear what other builders have referred to pod slabs as. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: A question for those with waffle pod slabs? 4Jul 11, 2011 8:28 pm Hmmm ... this calls for an expert in this area ... BTW, we also had concrete piers, if that helps. Ours is basically "slab on ground" ( I hate this particular term since it seems to be interpreted into different things by different people ) and it's supported by piers along the perimeter. Perhpas there is something on the net? I know that concrete.net has some good docos ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Quote: Provide Monolithic Raft style concrete slab on a piering system with a 475mm thick edge beam as required by the engineer's design recommendations for a type 'E/P' site classification in lieu of slab and piering system as stated in signed Tender Letter 20257.3 dated 13-Dec-10 The term raft is what I focussed on ... but adding the word 'style' in there changes it all?
