Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Easy Clean House Tips 21Jul 07, 2011 1:26 pm yes I would LOVE a ducted vacuum! never heard of them until I began hanging out here!! we are having our house fully tiled so will be having tiled skirtings as well, they are pretty easy to keep clean just go over it with the little brush attachment from the vacuum same goes for doors too - pick the ones that are plain (or plain-ish) and avoid horizontal routing designs we chose vertical route design for this house Re: Easy Clean House Tips 22Jul 08, 2011 2:33 pm kb46 HomeAngels Maybe having wall mounted tapware above the bathroom basins to prevent having to take the handles off to clean the orangey stuff that forms Wish I'd seen this earlier - never even thought of that benefit before! I think the the orange stuff your talking about is actually a form of mould,if i don`t clean around the base of my taps for a while it starts to form and slowly expand out. It probably comes from a combo of soap residue and water droplets from your wet hands when you turn the tap off Re: Easy Clean House Tips 23Aug 11, 2012 6:53 pm oh, I like this thread! We tried to make our house as easy to clean as possible too. We have ducted vacuum and would definitely get it again. We have two big dogs and a cat. . . having the vacuum blow its air out into the garage is excellent, as all of the animal smells go out there, instead of going straight back out into the house. We went over the top a bit and had 5 points put in our house. Bamboo floors are good, very easy to keep clean (actually, you can't really tell when they're dirty. . . YEEHARGH!) We wanted wall-facing toilets, but couldn't afford them. . . I'd be a bit scared of having a wall-hung. . . my fat butt would pull it off the wall for sure! Wall-hung vanities are great, HATED having to clean around the legs of normal vanities. Actually, some of the girls on the forum have a half-depth plinth under their vanities (as they're a bit scared of having them fall off the wall). . . the plinths are tiled, and it looks like the vanity is floating! We had wall lights put in above the bed (one each side), negates the need for bedside lamps on the bedside tables. . . less to dust around! Have plenty of kitchen storage space, make sure there's a place for everything so you can keep things off the benchtop. We have pull-out laundry hampers in the laundry (built-in drawers), and pull-out bins in the kitchen. . . LOVE THOSE! We made a high shelving unit for our shoes in the WIR. . . I HATE having shoes underneath the clothes rails, you have to pull them all out every time you vacuum, who can be bothered? Actually, ikea have some pretty good systems now for shoes. Next time I'd put wire shelves in for the shoes, so the dust can just fall through to the floor, instead of having to pull all of the shoes out to dust the shelves. Must dash, have to go out to dinner. . . I'm sure we thought of other ways to avoid cleaning though, so I'll pop back later if I think of any. Oh yeah. .. hang the TV on the wall instead of putting it on a console. . . and route the cables through the wall behind it, to get down to the DVD player etc. underneath. Byeeee! Re: Easy Clean House Tips 24Aug 11, 2012 7:34 pm Ok, in the car, thought of another: Shaving cabinet instead of mirror, keep your deodorant, makeup, perfumes etc in there, keeps them off the counter. And, bulkheads on your wall-hung kitchen cabinets. Good quality, washable wall paint (high sheen is best) Gloss kitchen cupboards are easier to clean than matt. Handle-less kitchen cupboards. Have your Tv consoles, sideboards etc built-in, no dust collecting behind! embed your home theatre cables in the wall before gyprock. Re: Easy Clean House Tips 25Aug 11, 2012 7:54 pm We are having a tiled wall on a walk in shower instead of a glass shower screen. Our designer has it in her own home and says it makes it so much easier to keep the bathroom looking clean. I was a little worried about it making it feel dark but I think the bathroom light will be positioned so it reaches into the shower as well. 5.5m Terrace House - Lightsview (Northgate SA) Moved in!! - 22 February 2013 /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53455 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair I mean, I install them/sell them for a living so I haven't done DIY, unless you count the first one I installed lol.
