Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2011 2:23 pm Hi all Contemplating replacing the Solar Hot Water system for our new house (yet tobe constructed) and go with the gas hot water system to knock $3k off the construction cost. I dont know what the overall benefit of the solar hot water system has over the gas and some comments so far say 'just save the money as it isnt worth the extra $3k'.....any thoughts or exeriences?? Cheers MC Re: Solar Hot Water heating 2Jul 02, 2011 2:34 pm I would rather pay for an hours' boost of gas to heat water in winter than pay for countless hours of boosting all year round (depending on hot water usage in your home). My parents always had electric boosted solar until about 8 years ago when the tank sprung a leak. Dad priced up another solar vs instantaneous gas. Gas won with up front cost so he had the solar disconnected and wen with the gas. They lost water pressure (plumbers *still* don't know why), they lost temperature (again, plumber adjusted the system for max heat) and their gas bills sky rocketed. 3 years later he had enough and went back to solahart. Gas system currently sits disconnected on the wall, new solar on the roof, low gas bills, low power bills and he has full heat and pressure back again. Solar all the way for me! That probably means we are saving around $10/week with solar The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Solar Hot Water heating 4Jul 02, 2011 4:22 pm We are on bottled gas and have a solar hot water system that is gas boosted. In the old house we had to change the gas over roughly every 6 weeks, moved into this house and with the same things on gas, we only just changed the first bottle over after 6 MONTHS, and that was only because we started using the gas heater which chews through the bottle. That has saved us about $400 just in the first 6 months, and the bottle still had heaps left before we started using the gas heater. With the way gas and everything is rising in price, it is definately worth forking out for it now. the sun master is the solar heating to "warm" the water in the tank the S26 is your hot water system which will heat the water (25 degrees?) so with both turned on you… 2 13784 I want to build a decking to the drawn shape outlined in black.
