Re: Anise's Guildford Loft: we have a loft! 142Nov 30, 2012 5:23 pm Hiya AubinGroveFan We're long overdue an update but nope, not yet at lock-up. We had some delays largely due to a window that had to be measured on-site then kept everything waiting for 3 weeks while they made it and fitted it, as they couldn't remove the scaffolding til it was in place. We haven't yet got a finished roof even.... however I can't say I'm too impatient as the delay's not bad for the bank balance It's been weeks since I've been on here, I'll bet everyone's places have moved on heaps - I look forward to having a gander and I'll be sure to come back and post our latest pictures. House-wise things have continued to move mighty slowly, there've been a fair few hic-ups. The window I mentioned that caused all the delays finally got fitted and was *nothing* like we expected So we had to start all over again with it. Then came the Christmas break - all 4 and a bit weeks of it (grrrr!!!!) - but finally on the first day back the window went from this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ to this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Just how it was supposed to look On the very last day before Christmas, the plasterer was on-site and made good progress with the flashing: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ That same first day, the stairs chap had also been by and marked the exact place on the wall where the ceiling should have been lowered to accommodate the stair landing (I did mention there'd been a few hic-ups hey?! I'd tell you the others, but I'd bore the pants off you - the joys of a fully custom plan) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The ceiling guys are due to start tomorrow and our Site Supervisor is confident we'll finally be at lock-up by 8th February (originally thinking before Christmas) and handover by April. Despite all the upsets we're still really happy with SS, so while I'm not holding my breath on the dates, I'm reasonably confident everything will get there in the end. Finally a few pics of outside to leave you with: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Tis all for now. I'll do my bestest to keep this better updated here on in. My naughty silence is largely due to our other major project. After a stressful IVF rollercoaster (who in their right minds would do IVF and build a house at the same time?!?) I'm now 15 weeks pregnant. The first trimester fair took my breath away energy-wise, and I had to step away from the build and all its stresses for a bit. But thankfully I'm now safely in the second trimester and so far it's every bit of the breeze it was promised (touch wood). Just as well because taking all the post-handover activities into account, the baby and build are in a fair race - yikes - it's Game On! That first window was shocking though!!!! Much better now!!! And the front elevation is so striking!!!! It might take a while but it seems they are building a quality house. I'd much rather wait longer and house be quality then be in and have problems! Especially now that you will have a little one living there too!! That's exactly what we think too and while we're happy to be patient with the issues - 'course ask me again when I'm 7 months pregnant and it might be a different story The window drama was such a doozy. It was originally drawn as 2x 45 degree triangles on either side of the rectangle and the SS asked if we'd rather it followed the angle of the roof which we jumped at. We had no idea we were on such different pages:
He was kicking himself he didn't get it drawn up for us to approve and just slipped it through as an easy change as it proved to be way more trouble than it was worth as it impacted the scaffolding coming down and a whole heap of other things too. Have to say though, he was great about it. TashnStu77 My money is on the house. Yay! I hope you've got a good betting track record Baby's due 8th July so we really need the house to handover in April if we're going to have time to get the timber flooring, carpeting, decking, paving, pool, interior painting etc etc done before we move in. Re: Anise's Guildford Loft - the race is on! 157Jan 19, 2013 5:43 pm Congratulations! I rekon your house will win the race. We had a house baby race too but we were only in the paperwork stage when we found out we were pregnant last Easter. Turns out its much faster to bake a baby than it is to get a project builder to get paperwork together... they only started on site a month before the baby arrived!
