Re: Calling all people with Raintanks,i need help PLEASEEEEE 4Jul 01, 2011 8:20 pm what are you looking to use the water for, that will dictate if the tank is big enough We have rainwater tanks as our sole water supply to the hosue, so we have quite large tanks. Services 1 outdoor tap, washing machine and 3 toilets. We get a lot of rain here (haven't had to water the garden in about 5 mths), so enough for us. They are 2150L each. They are on a narrow slab attatched to garage wall (they take up almost all that length, but out less than 1m). Re: Calling all people with Raintanks,i need help PLEASEEEEE 6Jul 01, 2011 10:45 pm Hi & many thanks for your answers, also the private message. What were hoping to do for now is water the whole garden - front, back, vegi garden, fruit trees but haven't even built yet lol, just planning ahead. Talked to a earthworks guy today & he advised the best spot for a tank which will need a pump. Where he suggested it will recieve water from the house & man shed I have looked at rhino tanks (colourbond,we are not allowed silver) they are steel with a liner & have found out that there is something about having a tank at least 92,000 ltr's in the estate or such Sorry forgot the details atm coz all the other earthworks stuff was doing my head in 92,000 ltr 1 is around the $8,000 mark If anyone has the time i would be greatful for some photo's to get an idea of size etc, cheers Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper! We have both metal and plastic rainwater tanks. They are all connected. We have one at the top of the hill and pump upto it and use gravity for pressure in the house. They are also connected to several buildings. if you want a 920000l tanks thats pretty big and in a rhino tank would be about 8m in diameter, so needs alot of room. We found it cheaper in the end to buy an 11000gal (44000l) that only cost us 4k. I would have thought if you only want it for gardens having a 5000g tanks would be enough. Depending no how much rain you get and roof area you might struggle to fill the larger tank. the Large tank is 4m in diameter but its also 4.2m high (we have it to collect from a building that is 5m high The difference in site requirement for metal vs plastic is that the metal tanks require a concrete base while the plastic ones can use crusher dust or sand. The Rhino tanks can also be put on sand. Our glav tanks all had to be put on concrete foundations which adds to their cost. I have not noticed any difference in the task of the water either. Oh pattycaked, pattycaked,hi ya Hows the house thingy going, hopefull this thread will help you too then Thanks all We use tank water for the washing machine, the toilets and watering the yard. DH thinks they are 5000 litres each but I would have to check the paperwork to confirm that. My idea was to have the tanks like suh's because they are long rather than a round. When talking to the earthworks guy he suggested a round tank back off shed & inbetween leach drains, with still heaps of room left/between it all. Is there something that needs to be done if in the future we decide to use it for water in the house cheers Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper!
