How are things going with you? You must be powering ahead now! Its going good for us. A bit of another hickup for us when DH met the earthworks guy and they measured out and visualised the draftsman had made the drawings for the FFL to be so to get into our garage you need what can only be described as a 2mt high ramp. Turns out the cut was not much of a cut but the fill would have meant hauling in a s*** load of sand. As the earthworks guy told the draftsman- they can get into the driveway- if they have a helicopter. He had a word telling them that surely it shouldnt cost us anything and they were ok with changing it but we have to pay the $90 shire amendment- god knows if that will cause a $500 variation fee. I hope not seeing all the grief the prestart lady gave us, not to mention that we still had a $689 credit from the spending spree that due to it not being applied at pre start, was not applied. We tried to apply it and it was ok but prestart lady conveniently failed to advise us by her applying it to 4 different items resulted in $2000 in variation fees. Luckily I asked in passing before she put it through and it was only then that she confirmed that what I suspected was the case- that it was gonna cost us $2000 to have a $689 credit. Anyway, I wonder why she no longer works there..... Backt ot he siteworks, it will cost us for extra digging and extra sand but the earthworks guy is a real genuine guy so we rather it be to him than anyone else. His base cut inspection from the engineer went well and no extra drainage or membrane is needed- that was a huge PHEW moment!!! Ill put some more pics up once hes finished the sandpad- its pretty big! and soon our water tank will be in. Its so much more enjoyable now that you can see things happening. I really dont think we will be in until Feb but now that things are moving, we are ok with it. It would be nice to mve in before chrissy but it is what it is and it will be almost done at least. Re: and so it begins... 88May 11, 2012 12:47 pm The sandpad is just about done but no word from the builder yet as to when they will start. At lease we will be collecting water soon as the water tank will be done within a month. my faith in the builder is increase now as the lady who took over pre start rang and went over the problems we had. She said she will try and get them all sorted out by today. She also expalined a few things about the process of the build which was great as we have no idea- we've never built before. I will put picks up once the slab is finished. Im going out today to have a looksy. DH was a bit puzzled last time we went out as they have alot of the sand in for the sand pad but havent cut into where the sunken garage is going. Earthworks guy has done a fantastic job so far so Im sure hes onl to it. Will post pics soon. We like it! Well tomorrow we get our compaction test and then its onto the slab. The new lady we are dealing with at Venturi says we should hear from scheduling within a week. Our faith in the builder has improved no end. I wrote a letter to the lady who took over from the PITA pre start lady, outlining a few things that we were really unhappy with as they were missed and she was onto it straight away. She put in the variations and won't charge us the variation fee for each as an act of good faith. So our $689 credit plus some is coming our way. Plus she noticed our feature brick sill had changed from soldier(?)layed to being 2course horizontally laid which would look really odd. She couldnt see why it had been changed and I cant even find anywhere where it states it so I am really glad she noticed and ammended that. Im hoping thats the only thing that has miraculously changed without us knowing but with this lady onto it Im not that worried about it. As for the rest, Im ordering our water tank as the sand pad for it is completed. Heres some pics for those who are interested. Re: and so it begins... 93May 16, 2012 12:24 pm Thats what we said coz normally slabs look really small. I remember mum and dads place and saying theyve stuffed up- there is no way you can fit a house on that. With this its the other way around, thinking theyve made it too big. I did work out though that if you square off the perimeter of the house, it is bigger than our block that we had in suburbia. Its a spin out. Forgot to add yesterday we ordered our fire. Another ongoing issue sorted out by our new lady. Re: and so it begins... 94May 21, 2012 4:24 pm We havent got a start date yet but an estimated time frame of 6-7 months for contruction. The race is on then for a completion date just before christmas. We can only hope.... Re: and so it begins... 95May 23, 2012 5:22 pm This whole building thing is just so depressing. Our siteworks are done and now- nothing. No word from the builder on a start date. Waiting for a call on that thats not come. Now I have word that the tank will go in on or before 17 June. If the later then our slab cant go down until after that date as they need access to water. Its seems the building industry is a complete **** up. The tank wasnt ordered until today as they didnt receive the pad completion form until today after it was resent. It was sent over a week ago. Whats makes it worse is that DH's mates who first signed up with their builder in Feb (Scott Park) have already started their earthworks. We signed up with Ventura June 31st last year. They will finish their build before we will even thought they started their process 8 months after we did. I am so disheartened. I know it sounds pathetic but I could actually cry. Re: and so it begins... 96May 23, 2012 6:35 pm I feel your pain Jujub.... We signed with builder October 2011 and still not started anything on our block...... The most disheartening thing is when you see other peoples homes start and nearly finish while you are still waiting to see anything happen...... Hopefully this will all change for us soon and we can still be in before christmas this year.... Fingers crossed for the both of us Re: and so it begins... 97May 23, 2012 6:50 pm Hi JuJuB, The waiting is terrible...you feel helpless because there are (apparently...and hopefully!) so many things going on behind the scenes that you don't have any control over and you just have to feel confident that everything will start happening sooner or later. I know what you're going through - It's been a year since we had our offer accepted on our block (it was already titled, so no waiting around for that, fortunately) and there is still nothing going on, except for some marvellously tall weeds blowing about in the wind. Our block was one of the first to be sold on our street, and now we are definitely the last to be moving in...I think there are already 2 houses completed in the last couple of months. Like your DH's friends, we're also building with Scott Park, but things are definitely not going quickly at all. I try to put a positive spin on it, in that maybe it's taking so long because everything is being triple-checked and dealt with thoroughly, rather than just thinking that someone is letting your file sit there and collect dust. Are you communicating regularly with your builder? You could still be in by Christmas, don't give up hope yet! Will be looking forward to seeing your progress...don't worry, you'll be getting those slab pics up on here very soon! Good luck It's finally happening! Its not nice to hear other people are going through the same thing so i feel really selfish in saying it makes me feel better because people actually understand what its like and that its not just because Im being an hormonal 7 month pregnant chick having a major mood swing. Dh says I need to lay it all on the line with the builder. I dont want to talk to them now because I am worried I will start crying (I have a tendency to cry when I get angry- a very annoying trait). He said so what, cry- let them know I am 7 months pregnant and should not be having to deal with being on their backs all the time and that once the baby comes I really wont have the time to deal with this sort of thing and nor should I have to. That we were told by two people that specifically that we would easilyt be in by christmas and that we signed a lease which expires a week prior to christmas and that now I am begining to worry that my 5 kids, Dh and I might possibly be homeless as there is no guarantee that we can get a periodical lease from the time this one expires until the time the house is finished.( This point is really starting to worry me the more I think about it.) He said people arent used to being put on the spot like that and told exactly how it is and that I should say while they will get off the phone and forget I exist, I will get off the phone and continue to worry about the consequences of my house not getting built until it actually is. Re: and so it begins... 99May 24, 2012 9:12 am Go on give 'em the waterworks .. you've got nothing to lose and it might work .... good luck!! Re: and so it begins... 100May 24, 2012 10:11 am Ohhh Jujub, I really feel for you, being 7 months pregnant and worrying about if your home will be ready in time for when your lease ends is must be soo stressful...... I would call and tell them to start making this a priority as this is something you should'nt have to deal with........ If this makes you feel any better, I kicked up a stink on Monday about my concerns about the build having to be finished by Christmas as we have to relocate from Kalgoorlie to Perth with 3 kids....... I told them we have no more time to waste...... Since monday everything that was an issue has been sorted and now the pre order has been place and we are just now waiting for the material for the build to start........... Call them today and if they dont answer you call.... just keep trying till you get it sorted....... one day wasted is an extra day lost in your home......
