Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 28, 2011 11:58 am Hi There, We are finally at our Colour Selection stage, booked in for next week, we have everything choosen apart from our bricks... We are looking at Boral's Mist as we are looking for a light greyish colour, however every photo we see they look more of a brown/tan colour... This is drving us insane, is there anyone who has these bricks that can finally put an end to this madness, are they grey or tan?... Please! Thanks Everyone... Re: HELP!!! BRICKS - BORAL MIST ANYONE? 2Jun 28, 2011 12:49 pm Unfortunately they are both. We used them on our home. As the color of the brick is really only a top coat, after handling and washing some of the grey is lost. It's not highly noticeable underneath the brick color coat itself as being a tan color though. It's still a light grey. Check out some pics in our threads. NO EXPECTATIONS, NO DISAPPOINTMENTS! There are pics in our thread also http://8eightisenough.blogspot.com/ Link to thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45130&p=744918#p744918 Building the Windsor 43E by NBG Re: HELP!!! BRICKS - BORAL MIST ANYONE? 4Jun 29, 2011 7:42 pm We have Boral Mist on our house and they look grey to me. But i think it depends on the type of sand used in the mortar and the finish you have that make the difference in the colours. Our brickies used white sand and our finish is flush, so it all blends in. Our roof is woodland grey and our gutters, windows etc are Dune. Good luck!!! Re: HELP!!! BRICKS - BORAL MIST ANYONE? 5Jun 29, 2011 8:10 pm We have Boral Mist too and with a surfmist garage door, front doors and gutters and fascia with grey windows it looks grey to me - but when we went past the display home with the same bricks but with brown tones/jasper windows etc it looked really brown. Boisel is right though - where the brickies focus a lot when cleaning them and the grey "coat" lifts off you do see the natural brown clay underneath. Oh and I have to say, I have checked out all your threads... you all have beautiful houses... I need to stop looking at them, I have already changed my mind to many times as it is... and just a mention to 8isenough... I promise we are not copying you , but our colour choices are pretty much identical to yours , even the same builder.... ... what can I say, we must have good taste!!!! Re: HELP!!! Re: HELP!!! No. Bricks should be acid washed with a pressure washer sprayed from a distance. Not up close. This is the problem. Brick washers have gotten lazy and instead ofntaking their time and cleaning it properly they take the quick route which causes more problems like broken bricks, blown away mortar and plain poor workmanship. So there is no problem with your bricks and the builder will not fixnit I'm sure. Unlessnyou have many bricks that are broken, in which case I'm sure they will replace the broken bricks resulting in unsightly mis matched mortar colours. So in picking what was a nice different brick you are left with something 'different' in the wrong sort of way. Do you have a couple of pics to show your problems?
