Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 27, 2011 4:34 pm Hello All, I am building a new home with DFH and the contract is about to be signed. I have one quick question on networking the home for computers and TV. I got a quote for 8 points network (only for the CAT6 cables and wall sockets), all about say 50m max total length for $750. As I have a good knowledge in networking I am thinking of doing that myself, which I presume will allow me to do more points for the same amount. My question is 'is this allowed?' or does it need to be done by an industry person (certified)? What are your thoughts on this, advantages/disadvantages. Thanks with regards, Meetoo. We signed a clause in our contract that allowed another tradie to come and cable our house at our expense during the frame stage. This clause means that if any 'damage' happens to any of the cabling, it is NOT covered by the builders. Our $200 HDMI cable was cut and a face plate fitted to it by the builders electricians (wrongly, as they shouldn't actually have touched it - it wasn't in their electrical contract to do it) and the builders now will have absolutely nothing to do with it. $200 wasted, plus extra costs for labour to replace it. If it's all included in your building contract and something happens to it during construction, then they have to fix it. Sure, you may be able to do it yourself and for a lot cheaper, BUT if anything goes 'wrong', it's not worth the hassle. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!!
