Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 18, 2008 8:14 pm I know of the previous thread regarding american style homes back in April 07. But has anyone had any dealings with these guys (American Homes)?
We're looking to go again this year and are interested in some of the designs they offer. Any advice? Re: Has anyone built with American Homes? 3Jan 19, 2008 8:02 am Thanks for the reply Steve,
I’m keen on the mix of brick/stone work and light weight cladding. The roof lines look great, plenty of gables, dutch gables and intersections. We looked at building one a couple of years ago but went with something else due to the covenants on the block we bought. Every time we’re in the Sunbury area, we’ll do a drive by of the couple that are built there. Whilst I like the Bradford, my wife is fond of the Manhattan, I guess we are looking for something a little different. I lived in Canada for a year or so some time ago so I guess the interest stemmed from there. I’m also unsure if seeing (volume) builder designs on a daily basis has overexposed me to the PD’s, M-cons, and DFC’s etc… Just my thoughts, diff’rent strokes for diff’rent folks! Hennig Re: Has anyone built with American Homes? 4Jan 19, 2008 9:33 am Reason I asked was primarily for eco housing interests, and well as seeing if our population is becoming more Americanised
Given the massive differences in our climates, i think they may not be the best thermally designed houses to suit our climate. If you like different houses, grab a copy of the Sanctuary magazine from the newsagent. It's in the housing section, nice looking magazine and they have a feature home of a volumish builder who is doing eco houses for around th $250K mark and they are not in the I look th rest of them houses. Good luck with it all. Steve Re: Has anyone built with American Homes? 5Jan 19, 2008 9:30 pm Thanks for the info Steve, looked them up online, some interesting concepts and quite a few common sense design ideas.
My inlaws would love the magazine (I think I'll arrange a subscription for them) as they built an eco friendly home in Palm Cove (QLD). Three pavilions with an vacuum transfer duct come stairwell connecting them all, they stopped short of installing photo voltaic panels on the roof - waiting for the QLD power retailer to come to the party with credits for putting power back into the grid. I actually like their design and would happily replicate it here in Vic - another option to throw into the mix. Colours already chosen as we'll use some similar tones to what we currently have, now sourcing a block, finalising a design and confirming the dollars. That said, I have no doubt that it shall take another few months to get everything in place - no real hurry as we'll look to sell where we come spring. Hi we are looking to talk to people who have built with them recently. We have signed mid range built contract but identified that a lot of things are not included.… 0 635 Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 13480 wondering anyone built with omaxe homes and care to share their experiences. thanks 0 13782 |
