Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our House 262Jul 08, 2008 2:05 pm Hi Everybody,
Work has come to a halt ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, on a cherier note, I decided to put ducted vacuum system in as the plasterers havent turned up yet. I wasnt going to but after doing much research, talking to people who have one, we have decided to go ahead. 4 outlets should be able to do the whole house so no more crappy vaccum machines. Staircase..... We met with the staircase guy yesterday. He asked me what did I want. I must of blinked a few times before anything sensible came out of my mouth. I havent really put any serious thought into the design of such an important element in the house. Lucky I quickly came to my senses and explained what I need from a staircase and the look I was after. Safety comes first so the underneath part will be enclosed and half way up there is a substantial landing so it allows our young children and elderly parents a place to rest and find their balance. It is also going to be made from the same wood as our flooring blackbutt but I had the distinct impression this was going to cost a fortune. I also want to glass balastrade (sp) like in the picture below with a blackbutt wooden handrail. I think this is going to go way over our allowance but I can comprimise on a few things so I will wait to see what my builder has to say. Also all the pipe works was in the way of the staircase so it all has to be changed. I nearly didnt cope with this piece of news as I dont want any thing to hold up progress. Pic of glass I would like to have (depends on cost ![]() http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh43/jacck/styles_gbalustrade_bottom_1.jpg Flooring I love Oak but have been told by many people it is a soft wood so I have selected wide plank blackbutt as my flooring. Quote came in 10k extra we would have to pay. My builder is looking at another lot of wood that is not as thick so hopefully the price will be much better. Anyway, that is it, no pics of house as nothing has changed. Mrs B ![]() Re: Our House 264Jul 08, 2008 3:54 pm Hi Mrs B ![]() All I can say is ... WOW!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously, it's gorgeous. Re: Our House 265Jul 08, 2008 3:57 pm ![]() Picture of the garage door I would like for my house. It has a metallic finish but I have only seen it in silver. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh43/jacck/garagedoor.gif Mrs B I am like, so glad that I found your thread Mrs B cos' I'm having difficulty trying to decide a colour for my house. I saw this posting of yours with the garage door. I'm just wondering if you or anyone else, know the colour of this render job. I'm unsure if it's 2 different colours ie around garage and house but heck, I like em both, if they are. See Mrs B, sometimes, in sharing your joy, you help others too ![]() I think, therefore, I am! We have it in our current house and it was the first thing I had put into our variations for our new one! You will love it. You might want to look at getting a 2nd hose for upstairs too ![]() Re: Our House 271Jul 09, 2008 12:48 am Hi TJ175,
Thanks for your nice comments ![]() Hi Bel, Had a look at the PD staircase, really liked the glass but I am going to have it enclosed underneath. I love those floating staircases but the thought of my father or baby having a bad fall on these staircases is enough to consider safety over design. BTW, I found this staircase on the net and I love it...nothing to do with my house but I had to share the picture..Melb company that built it http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh43/jacck/cont13singlesmall.jpg Hi Paula and H2B, I am really relieved that I am putting in ducted vacuum. I just wish they would hurry up and plaster before I want to make any more changes. Thought I would give you an update... We told the builder to go ahead with the ducted vacuum, within 2 days it was installed. I am so happy I decided to put it in, thankyou so much to everyone here who suggested it ![]() ![]() ![]() Render...I am very pleased to find out that the colour of the house is not painted on but rather it is mixed up with the 3rd coat of render so it is the actual top coat. It may be painted a second time but I'm glad it is just not rolled on like I have seen with other houses. Extremely happy with the job our builder has done with the rendering, even the underneath of the porches and balconies have been rendered not just plaster board. They are waiting for a very dry day to finish of the outside of the house as it affects the finish if there is moisture in the air. Once that is done, the scaffolding comes down, the garage roof and balcony is completed and the outside is finished. Our carpenter has 11 small jobs to finish inside. This includes a feature bulkhead that goes throughout the house. Our 2 air conditioners need to be roughed in. About 5 large glass panels for the windows need to be installed. Electrician has a few fiddly things to do including the installation of HDMI cables to run from the DVD player to the plasmas. Plastering will start once OUR plasterers finish a job for another neighbour. Staircase guy at house again today, hydronic cabling has to be moved a fraction but my builder said not to worry ![]() So, I know what has to happen, so please let it happen. Is also said to my builder, what ever happens please, please, please let it be before Christmas, he said October is what he is aiming for. I am going to remain positive and as long as the workmanship is excellent then what more can I ask for. Sorry there is no pics but nothing really new to take pics off. Mrs B ![]() Re: Our House 279Jul 12, 2008 2:57 pm Great to hear things are happening Mrs B ![]() ![]() I agree re the render, much better if they mix the colour in with the render - can't wait to see it go on, go away rain! (jealous ![]() Hi Donuts, Sorry, I missed this question ![]() Yes we did go ahead with Hydronic Heating...mostly panels and upstairs has 2 big trenches along the windows (this cost an extra $1800 just for these. I will take a picture to show what they look like this week. I cant stand ducted heating as I freeze in some parts of the room and in in others, too hot.
