Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our House 281Jul 27, 2008 10:12 am Well two weeks have passed and unfortunately not much more has happened
The renderers have managed to put on our colour mostly on the top part of the house. The 3 colours are just beautiful and it is exactly the way I had imagined it to look like. The pot black had a tan undercoat to it. When we first saw it I thought they had put the wrong colour on but common sense told me it was an undercoat because the colour is so dark. It is a very deep, rich dark brown colour and high lights all our features. What was interesting that they carried the colour under our top porch and it really looks fantastic. I promise I will take pictures but I wanted to wait for the whole house to be done to get the whole effect. All the extra work inside the house has been completed so we are just waiting for the plasterer to start which is likely to be a 2 week job. Water is still coming in the laundry because the roof has not been completed due to the scaffolding. The scaffolding cannot come down until the renderers are finished....blah blah you get the idea. Also the glass for some of the windows have not been installed 5 months now...something is definitely wrong (I have my suspicions) but I am not going to worry about that any more. So, needless to say at the end I will not recommend my window company even though they have a fantastic product. I have learnt not to worry about things out of my control...just focus on getting the end product as top quality as I can. I am getting all the colours for the inside of my house and have almost picked the wallpapers for the master bedroom and theatre/lounge. I will posts pics in my next post. Last week Mr B took me to Harvey Normans to look at appliances, he always knows this cheers me up. I had a browse in the carpet section, stopped in front of this particular carpet, took out one of the samples and said 'I've found it!' My perfect carpet at last. Texture and colour was exactly what I have been trying to find for ages. For any one interested it is 100% pure wool ,Pampas, Ginger colour and I cant remember the brand We spent 2 hours previously at Western Distributors for carpet but the colours just weren’t right. They gave us samples to take home but all the browns looked dirty and washed out (nice carpets but I was very particular about the right shade of carpet) We also made a decision on getting Blackbutt flooring. Big decision as it is costing us an extra 6k. Our friend was trying to suggest other types of imported wood and he has certificates that they are plantation wood not old growth forests. But, decision made and I am very relieved. Last of all, once again Mr B took me to Harvey Normans and we bought our Bosch front load washing machine...choice magazine actually gave the best score for this model. He actually said that if I had my heart on Miele then go ahead but I'm going to save those little purchases for the kitchen So that’s it from me, sorry everybody, no exciting pictures but hopefully this week there will be some of the exterior. Still positive and agonising over every decision but it will all be worth while in the end. Mrs B Re: Our House 282Jul 27, 2008 10:48 am I'm sorry not much more has happened on the house Mrs B. I'm excited to see pics of your render though - it sounds devine!!
Good news about the carpet and appliances also, after P's horror story about *** I'm looking at going with someone else and was thinking of Harvey Norman, how did they go with price? Service? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Our House 284Jul 27, 2008 11:03 am haywgl Good news about the carpet and appliances also, after P's horror story about *** I'm looking at going with someone else and was thinking of Harvey Norman, how did they go with price? Service? Hi Bel, We have gone to Harvey Normans for appliances and carpet/floors in the past and have found their customer service outstanding. We have been to the highpoint store as well as the big super store in Sunshine (this is where we found our carpet) All prices are negiotable and even more important, you can always bargain when buying appliances especially as a package. We also go to Good Guys in Sunshine and other shops to get the best deal...I have found all are good and after a while the salesman start to recognise you and you will get the best deal because they want your business. When we buy appliances, we always take out the extra 5 year guarantee, almost use it every time. Mr B always bargains and goes from shop to shop, cash deals are always better but atm we have to put it on card, 3 years interest free, always pay it off under 6 months. Our builder is getting us most of the appliances, he gets even a better price than what we can. We just have to pick and he buys. Mrs B Re: Our House 286Jul 27, 2008 11:21 am haywgl Awesome thanks for that Mrs B - I might go and check out HN during the week and see what sort of flooring they offer Hi Bel, go to the HN super store in Sunshine for carpet and of course Western Distrubutors in Sunshine as well. As for wood floors( I cant remember if you are having them ) pm me as I am going through a friend, factory/warehouse is in Sunshine...price always negiotable. Actually, everythings in sunshine mrs b Re: Our House 288Jul 27, 2008 11:52 am Re: Our House 290Jul 27, 2008 12:25 pm Oh that's devine.....

Dont you worry about that Paula Mr B is going to have to open his wallet by the time I pick out my Miele cooktop and stove, along with that designer sink I have choosen and the must have 'white granite' as well as the carpet, tiles and floor boards that are all over our limit. Picking a cheaper washing machine was the least I could do mrs B Re: Our House 292Jul 27, 2008 2:42 pm Mrs B,
Your attention to detail is just amazing. I've enjoyed reading your updates and can't wait to see more photos. Love your choice of washing machine, we've purchased a bosch front loader too (along with the extended warranty) and managed to get a 'sydney water' $150 rebate too! Your bedroom wallpaper is de-vine... Re: Our House 293Jul 27, 2008 9:31 pm OMG Mrs B. What's the online equivalent of a squeal? - I LOVE that wallpaper sooooo much! The pattern's a weee bit like my embossed tile. Beautiful. Are you having it in all walls or just a feature wall? If feature, what colour are you having on the other walls?
Also, do you have a picture of your carpet to show us? You're right - everything's in Sunshine. I reckon you could build a whole house just using the suppliers in McIntyre Road! Re: Our House 294Aug 02, 2008 7:17 am Clarity Mrs B, Your attention to detail is just amazing. I've enjoyed reading your updates and can't wait to see more photos. Your bedroom wallpaper is de-vine... Hi Clarity, In the last few months I have been feeling a little 'despondent' about my house as it is taking so long. I spoke to my beautiful neighbours yesterday and they told me they have been waiting 15 months and still not completed...but they are almost there However, there is good news as the plasterers for our house have started, some of the scaffolding has been taken down so today I am going to take photos BTW...I love my front loader washing machine and so does Mr B. We actually race each other to put on a load of washing. My old 17 year top loader is just a distant memory...it really was not washing clothes properly and I realise that now. We left it out on the nature strip and was gone that night...apparently the motors are fairly valuable to some people. Mrs B Re: Our House 295Aug 02, 2008 7:37 am donuts OMG Mrs B. I reckon you could build a whole house just using the suppliers in McIntyre Road! Hi Donuts, I'm having it for just one feature wall. The other colour is called Ceylon Ivory from wattyl and trims are Antique white usa. My builder was quite surprised that I was not going for all white. I explained that I have been 'down that road before' and I cant live in an all white house. At this moment I feel mentally exhausted by all the selections (attention to detail) because I cant see any progress so I feel like just saying 'whatever' I know I cant do that because I still have a few important decisions to make as the laundry...I really want this room to stand out as this is 'my thing' I may not iron (sorry Paula ) but I am the Queen of washing even at 12:00 at night. I am also going to take a pic of my carpet today so hopefully I will have lots of wonderful pictures to show everyone Last of all, I went to Jimmy Possums a few days ago (thanks Ladyice ) and can I just say I was in designer heaven. Sipping my latte as I strolled around the store and having 2 attentive customer service girls pulling out all the most beautiful fabrics just made my day. I got a quote for a custom made couch and ottoman in 5 different fabrics but all compliment each other. Oh, I had a wonderful laundry planned.... This the pantry and my WIR are the things I compromised on when we bought an established house. I cant wait to see your laundry - sounds strange, but I cant. Paula Re: Our House 297Aug 02, 2008 9:57 am Hi Mrs B
at you wandering around Jimmy Possum. We went there about 6 weeks ago and I was the same , walking around just basically saying nothing but "ooooooohhh" (drool....) I had DH and all 4 REALLY- not- impressed- to- be-going-"house stuff shopping"-AGAIN-mum kids in tow though - with DH behind very startled at the prices . Just superb stuff. Didn't make any purchases , but we ARE going to use these panels they have in their store as inspiration for a way to section off our lounge without totally enclosing it!!! .....not quite the same Wallpaper is stunning - I absolutely love it. DH wants wallpaper in his study so I must go and have a look at that (perhaps a bit more manly than the gorgeous one you're having, Mrs B ) Once again can't wait for those photos Mrs B!!!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Our House 298Aug 02, 2008 4:21 pm of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them.
