Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 17, 2008 12:26 pm Hi,
I'm new to group and I come across to this forum whilst searching for feedbacks on builders. We are planning our budget now and I've learned that we should typically be setting aside around 50K-70K on top of the base price to have a "livable" house. My question is: Is the base price (per builder's brochures) still negotiable? If so, how much is a typical discount? TIA. And, when negotiating your deal, make sure you let Builder A know that you're also talking to Builder B. Even if Builder B doesn't exist. Re: Is the base price negotiable? 3Jan 18, 2008 7:56 pm Firstly welcome.
I think in these times that it is always a good question to ask (is the price negotiable). From what I have learned, the sales consultants may not be able to provide you with an answer or amount, but their manager sure can. I don't think it hurts to play one builder off against another and it certainly pays to shop around. Think of it as buying a new car (a really expensive one), haggle and beat them down as much as you can. At the end of the day, you're only asking a question, the least they can say is no. Cheers.
