Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2011 11:02 pm Hi Everyone So my husband and I are first home builders. We originally had a block and house sorted for settlement in July this year. We then found out titles were delayed to at least October and we didn't want to wait. So 3 weeks ago (when we found out) we asked our land company whether they had any stage one left and they did An extra 211 sqm and if we settled before end of FY then we would get $15k knocked off price. So we changed house designs and increased our house. Things have been so hectic, I completely forgot about a spot for the microwave until I received our plans today and there is nowhere for it! I don't want it to sit on the island or bench, I want it to have a 'spot'. I'm only 160cm so can't have it out of reach.. I have attached our plans so you can see and any ideas will be very appreciated Our oven is upgraded to a 900mm (as per plans) and even though the plans show our cooktop and rangehood as 600mm, these are being upgraded to 900mm next week in pre start. Thanks so much!! This is now a very popular option. Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 3Jun 14, 2011 11:59 pm Hi CA3105 Hmm I don't think I added the image properly.. Not sure how to do this There isn't really any room! There are draws down left hand side of island then dishwasher recess other side. Plus the oven is 900mm so can't really go under that bench. If I do put it underneath, I'm going to lose a lot of cabinet space.. Just thinking out aloud, do you have any spare bench space at the end of a bench, that you could do a stack with the microwave recess and perhaps some cupboards under or over? Like an appliance cupboard but with an open microwave recess? I'm also not sure how to upload photos on here as I haven't done it before. Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 6Jun 15, 2011 2:07 am Do you have any full height cupboards that could be split by inserting a space? People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. Upload to their site then post the IMG code in your post. As PP said do you have a large pantry? My microwave is inside my walk in pantry - just remember to install an exhaust fan if doing this. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 9Jun 16, 2011 12:40 am Geewhizz! Not alot of options fit the microwave hey! Is it too late to extend the bench beyond the dishwasher end, put it in there? You wouldn't want to take up a pantry shelf as there is not alot of cupboard space in the whole kitchen is there? Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 10Jun 16, 2011 12:46 am Exactly! I'm so low on options. Completely forgot about the draws but I can't not have draws! That's an idea though, extending the island, thanks I'll ask for a price, hopefully they won't slog me too much! You could do a wall hang for the microwave above the counter next to the oven but than may change the look of the kitchen making look a bit crowded there. We had the same requirements, we wanted a separate space for the microwave rather than to sit on the bench so it went in the wall tower. For your plan, yep extend the bench for the microwave makes better sense and will also give you more bench space. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 12Jun 16, 2011 8:28 am I would think about making your kitchen into a U shape. That would give you the chance to have more overhead cupboards as well as a microwave spot underbench. Another option would be to actually shorten your island at the 'bottom' end and then add cupboards along the wall to make an L-shape. That would keep your two entrances (which would shorten the run from the garage with groceries). Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 13Jun 16, 2011 8:54 am Is there room for it to be on a shelf between your pantry and rangehood or between the fridge and rangehood? You don't have any overhead cupboards so you could have it at a height to suit you. Power point? Otherwise add a unit at the dining area end of the island, again higher than the bench with a hutch underneath. Put a fruit bowl on top. Gvies a visual break between dining and kitchen mess...... Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 14Jun 16, 2011 9:27 am How long is the bench? Could you move the sink towards the end and have the microwave up the other end next to the drawers? If it were my house, I would probably extend the bench all the way to the wall and have a galley kitchen that only has one opening. Re: Help Please - Redesign of kitchen needed 16Jun 16, 2011 12:16 pm What about using that odd cupboard in the island as a recess, you shouldnt need to extend the island very much. Other options might be to reduce the pantry height to around shoulder height, put the recess above the pantry and two cupboards above that. That is what I have at the moment (apartment) self::bbcode_second_pass_code_cb I was being kind to the builder. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14314 You never have a fridge against wall as you’ve drawn. The doors can’t open past 90 degrees and it’s difficult and maybe impossible to remove drawers 2 15600 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7158 |
