Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2011 10:43 pm Hi All, I'm after some advice/suggestions/discussion in relation to declined upgrade of our standard slideout rangehood to a canopy rangehood. The builder's comments " We cannot change brands for the rangehood as you have requested, because we have supplier agreements in place for all of our products, this would also mean amending the standard kitchen layout which Burbank are not prepared to do. As this is a medium density development we do our best to avoid any changes in the standard inclusions to avoid complications during construction. " We really want to change it for our townhouse as the standard has the following disadvantage: -Low extraction rate -Noisy -Not suitable for indian/asian/frying cooking What would you do? Many thanks, N. Re: Burbank won't let me upgrade the rangehood! HELP 2Jun 14, 2011 11:25 pm will they let you delete it and install your own, either during the build or after handover? or just let them install the cr@ppy one they want to install and then get it changed over later? Re: Burbank won't let me upgrade the rangehood! HELP 3Jun 15, 2011 9:12 am Hi Donuts, Thanks for the reply. I have considered your suggestion but the below items are an issue. - Replacing the rangehood now will be much cheaper - Installing the rangehood after handover implies re-desingning the cupoboard layout ( cost issue) - Removing the slideout design rangehood and replacing it with the canopy will be a pain (cost issue as well) Any suggestions/discusiion welcome! Thanks, N. Re: Burbank won't let me upgrade the rangehood! HELP 4Jun 15, 2011 11:19 am Quote: -Not suitable for indian/asian/frying cooking That's a pretty good reason. But their reason is good too. You may just have to pay the extra cost. They will do it for the right price, but it may not be cheap. HELP 5Jun 15, 2011 11:23 am neesh790 - Replacing the rangehood now will be much cheaper it won't be cheaper if they won't let you replace it though! have you looked into whether there are rangehoods around whose installation won't mean re-designing your kitchen cupboards, or are you just taking Burbank's word for it? I'd probably do some research, I can't imagine they'd all be THAT different. surely another one might fit in with your cupboard design? yes, it will be a pain but so are lots of aspects of building and we have to think of the end result.... and yes it may be costly, but so may upgrading it (if they let you...) Re: Burbank won't let me upgrade the rangehood! HELP 6Jun 15, 2011 11:32 am I think the key is in your first post.... it's a "medium density housing development". I can see their point... everything will be ordered in bulk and the same for each townhouse to keep the costs down. They can bang them out a lot quicker easier and cheaper when they are all the same. IMO it's just one of those things you'll have to accept as part of building in this type of development, in much the same way people accept covenants in estates. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Burbank won't let me upgrade the rangehood! HELP 7Jun 16, 2011 8:13 pm Thanks all for your input.
