Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2011 10:50 am Is anyone else holding their breath for further information to be released in the QLD Budget this afternoon?! Apparently treasurer Andrew Fraser tweeted this morning that there will be a QLD Gov't grant (QLD Boost Grant) of $10k for those building new homes. Will be available from the 1st August 2011 til the 31st January 2012. We were meant to sign our contracts this Thursday, but will put it on hold for now. I'm SO excited! Yes, we are waiting to find out more details too. It will be interesting to see how they decide who will be able to get the grant i.e. whether you had to have signed a contract or start building by a specific date. I'm trying not to get too excited that we will get it but it is nice to dream plus it would come in handy for a driveway Re: $10k for new builds in QLD? 3Jun 14, 2011 3:04 pm Update on this, it looks like it is only for contracts signed between August this year and January next year, boooo "A one-off stimulus measure costing $140 million will see grants of $10,000 handed out to people who sign home-building contracts between August this year and January next year. The grant is available to buyers snapping up house and land packages worth up to $600,000 and includes people signing a contract for a unit off the plan or buying a just-finished new home. Although the cash handout is not limited solely to first home buyers, those who are purchasing their first property will also receive the existing $7000 first home owner grant and will not pay mortgage duties on properties worth up to $500,000." I actually get it!!! Sorry, not gloating... It just seems like all of these good "deals" ever happen to people like us. Amazing when you've already budgeted for what it will actually cost and you get a random $10,000 thrown your way. We are just lucky we Metricon take a few weeks to do up contracts, otherwise we would've missed out too. I feel like I've won on a scratchie or something! Re: $10k for new builds in QLD? 6Jun 14, 2011 4:40 pm I am in qld and with the deficit as high as it is the money could have been spent better else where, it just vote buying but good luck to those who can get it. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: $10k for new builds in QLD? 7Jul 21, 2011 10:39 am If this was really about boosting the building industry, why is it capped at $600,000? Why does the value of your land have anything to do with the building industry? Cop out. Re: $10k for new builds in QLD? 8Jul 21, 2011 6:32 pm It's not really clear if you are building on pre-owned land whether or not the $600K includes that land or just the building contract cost. However, going on the wording for the first home owner grant on the OSR website it seems likely that the cap includes land price regardless. At first I thought it a little odd that the cap is $600K for this when the first home owner cap is $1M. But after thinking about it for a while, I reckon what the government want is for investors to pump out a heap of cheapo houses and units because 2 small houses built looks better on paper than 1 big house built even if the total time, work, profit, etc is the same.
