I would prefer to have utilities connection ready so that I can check the electrical (lights etc) and water (taps, sinks) and gas appliances are working properly during pre-handover inspection. The electricity, water will allready be on at the house. The builder would have been using them to build the house. Your appliances probably wont be in ours wont go in until the day we move in. But you can check lights, taps, sinks etc... on the builder. Check with your builder to find out the process. Give yourself up to two weeks to notify the utility companies where you currently live now, as some may take up to 10 working days to organise the disconnections Re: When to apply for utility connections? 4Jun 11, 2011 9:25 am Gas and water will be sorted by the builder usually but you may have to double check on the electricity. For our build the builder put in a temporary electrical connection to a pole at the front of the property. They needed to do this as I had to organise a new underground power pit (a process that took a couple of months). If you have overhead power it may be ok, but worth checking sooner rather than later.
