Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2011 9:48 pm Hi guys, We're newly married. Have brought a block of land in Doreen, VIC. Land size - 578m2. It was hard deciding which builder to go for. National had pretty much all the inclusions and ready to move in house, but their feedback wasn't brilliant. i also liked Silkwood as they had flexible plans. But in the end have decided to go with M*tricon because of how long they've been in the industry. We also didn't have house deposit, so M*tricon gave us the option of using their broker and our down payment would be less. That suited our circumstances as we spent heaps on our wedding. I must say I wasn't very happy with the process, as it wasn't clear at all. We completed our electrical appointment, then colours and then tiles. We had already signed our contract then! Apparently we have to sign the contract first and all the other stuff, like colours, tiles, are added to existing contract after. 06/03/11 - Electrical appointment - was through an external company, they only work Mon-Fri 9-5, so was a bit of hassle as we both work full time. thank God they weren't far from where we live. the lady there was in a hurry, as she had finished for the day. The place also didn't have all the light selections. We were promised the electrical plan would be sent the same day, Friday and we'll have until Monday to reply. We waited and waited. Finally we got the papers after calling them, on Monday, the day we had to reply back! So that was rushed. 11/03/11 - Colour appointment - We had to go to Studio M, Mt Waverley. We were under the impression that the girls are interior designers there, but they aren't. They're helpful but they'll just give you their opinion, and at the end of the day, you select what you want. Hence, most people go with safer options, the dark browns etc. 08/05/11 - Tile selection - Beaumont in Oakleigh - This has been my favourite part so far. The girl who works there (Courtney), is amazingly helpful. The appointment is meant to go on for 2 hours, which is definitely not enough time to select tiles for the whole house. The girl was very patient and it took us good over 3 hours to decide. The tiles we've gone for floors, are basic but we upgraded the bathroom tiles and I'm really looking forward to the bathroom coming alive 25/05/11 - The finance took long time as they needed heaps of documents. We had to close our credit cards and consolidate them into one. But we got there eventually. Anyhow, our building process started today. We haven't visited the site today, so don't know what they did there. Lets hope the process is smoother now. Everyone has told me once we move in, we'll forget all the hassles we've gone through. Anyone building in Harrison's View, Doreen? or already built? We're very nervous about moving far away from the city too, as we live very close to the city now. Any piece of advise for us? We haven't spoken to the site supervisor yet, as he was meant to call us but hasn't! Thanks all. MD Re: Building Santorini in Doreen 2Jun 07, 2011 10:01 pm High MD, we are in Harrison's View, we are renting while our house is being built. We should be moving in very soon, we have our Inspection tomorrow. We are building with Bentley, we are very happy with our choice our house was only started 3 and a half months ago and it's finished You will love living here, it's the best. We have a Son at the primary school and he loves it, we moved him to the School at the start of the year. I wish we had of moved here years ago. When I leave work, I just want to come back here and hate it when I have to go somewhere else first There is so much open space, for walks, parks for the kids, shops, we have a couple of gyms now, a 24 hour one and contours. There are pilates, yoga classes, boot camp ect.... looking forward to hearing about your build. Re: Building Santorini in Doreen 3Jun 07, 2011 10:15 pm Thanks Deb, Looks very promising. In fact, the only new estate that was green. Lots of parks as you said. Well, good to have welcoming neighbours like you 3.5 months for a complete build, its impressive. Good luck with inspection tomorrow. We'll go see what they've done tomorrow or day after. Will definitely keep you posted.
