It's working! Wow! I didn't think there was much of a market for these old timber frame homes. Lucky you getting someone to take it away. No we didnt either, but we thought we would give it a shot. I put it on gumtree, trading post and my work intranet - heaps of interest but once i told people roughly how much it cost to move, they werent interested anymore. As you know, we saved ourselves quite a bit of money by not demolishing. The house was really quite nice inside so would have been a shame to demolish anyway. Our house has a nice new home up near Clare. Re: Building own design with Format SA 7Jun 07, 2011 10:29 pm Yay !!!!! a fellow SA Format build to follow Looks great How soon after your slab did they start on the frame ? Thanks Buidling SA! It was approximately 2.5 weeks later. Then after tha,t each time we went to site something else had been done, such as water pipes, electirical, gas, windows etc. Its nice to talk with another Formatter - i have had lots of email discussions with a girl who is building with Format in the same suburb as us. She is in the process of moving in, so has given me feedback along the way which has been great. Hope your build goes well. Oh and if no luck with your SS contact head office. Heading to site this afternoon, so expecting more bricks. No word on our damaged door though I expect you will have a frame very soon - cant wait to see the pics Re: Building own design with Format SA 12Jun 08, 2011 7:21 pm Congrats on your new home Drayto, looking good! your bricks look nice, what are they called? I love that you were able to sell your old home on gumtree & then rebuild on your own block, how good is that!?! ideal situation we have 2.2acres which we brought & it has a s****y little house (aka shoebox) on it already which we have moved into while the new house is build. Would love to be able to sell the shoebox but it would just fall apart I reckon. We have to demolish it after build completion but we are doing it ourselves. Looking forward to watching your build! What plan did you go with? https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building own design with Format SA 14Jun 08, 2011 9:43 pm dreamcometrue hi Drayto I was wondering what had happened with your build as I read some of your earlier posts and was interested in Format last year/early this year but we will probably go with a local small builder or ADH at this stage. What plan did you go with? Hi Dreamcometrue No i havent been on here for months as i have had other priorities and i find this site sooooooooooooooooooo distracting (like now). I wasnt even sure if i would start a thread, i was quite happy looking at everyone elses pics etc. We disigned our own plan which i keep meaning to take to work and scan into a size that i can put on here. Will try and remember tomorrow, then you can all have a look. I think you will be happy with ADH as i have heard lots of good things about them. I think they are similar to format in a lot of ways. Cant wait to see your progress, will have to check your thread out. Re: Building own design with Format SA 15Jun 08, 2011 9:59 pm Broom Congrats on your new home Drayto, looking good! your bricks look nice, what are they called? Thanks Broom, yes we are pretty happy so far. The bricks are PGH Oyster. Unfortunately they are a painted brick which didnt realise at the time of selection - we didnt want painted bricks. We have had some issues with the colours of the ends of the bricks, however we have reached an agreement with PGH who will be rectifying this towards the end of the build. I will post some pics and show you what i mean. Yeah we were chuffed with giving the house away. So many people had quizzed us on giving it away, asking why we werent selling it because it was nice inside. When i explained that we had to get rid of it by end Jan or pay $10,000, we were actually saving money by not selling - then it made sense. Our house coped ok with the move, but once they re-stumped it (laser levelled) the inside was pretty lumpy and bumpy from what we heard. Wardrobes werent closing properly, bulges in the kitchen floor and doors need sanding etc. I guess not really my problem, and none of us guessed there would be those issues. Nothing that cant be fixed i guess. Look at it this way, you save a bucket load on rent by living in your shoebox, and youd be amazed how much you might be able to salavage from it later. You too could put an ad on gumtree prior to demolition for people to come and take bits and pieces at negotiated prices. We had people calling us saying if we didnt get rid of it, they would come and take the kitchen and robes and doors - not sure how much they were intending to pay. You might get a few dollars out of it. Do you have a thread? Keen to check out your build. Re: Building own design with Format SA 16Jun 09, 2011 8:07 pm You would have saved a lot by not having to sell & given the current market it probably saved you a lot of stress too! Understandable that some things in the house would have been "out of whack" after the big move but hey, the other people got a free house so who are they to complain! It is saving us heaps living in this shoebox, we were originally just looking at acerage & renting during the build so when we found this place we snapped it up. Added bonus is that I will be able to watch my new home being built from my kitchen window The link to my thread is under my signature if you wanted a look Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Building own design with Format SA 17Jun 11, 2011 10:14 am Drayto Broom Congrats on your new home Drayto, looking good! your bricks look nice, what are they called? Re: Building own design with Format SA 18Jun 11, 2011 10:40 am Yeah we were really dissapointed - you can see the brown coming throughoin our bricks on th pictures i have posted. PGH have arranged a company called Naw Kaw to paint (its not really a paint its some kind of oxide i think that penetrates the bricks) the bricks at the end of our build. We checked out their website and the results look pretty good. They give a 25 yer warranty on their product. We are going to check out some jobs that have been painted this weekend to make sure we are happy with the results. I think we should be made aware of bricks that are painted, so can change our mind if we want to before its too late. My ss said that due to the inconsistancy in bricks particularly the painted ones, that Austal have pulled down their displays and put up new bricks that show these inconsistancies so you know exactly what you may or may not get - rather than displaying a perfect brick. We now have an almost complete roof and a fair quanitty of bricks laid - soooooooooooo excited. I will post some pics later. Oh and have made amends with ss - he apologised for bad start, so homefully next few months will be much better now.
