Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 06, 2011 10:52 am Hi there - hubby and I are buildling for the first time and I have been reading the posts for some time. We are due to choose internal colours and I am not sure of the trim / skirting colours - any help or suggestions please !!! I am leaning towards painting the walls in Hog Bristle - 1/2 strength and can't decide on the paint colour for the Trims / skirting - not sure if the ceilings have to be white or can also be a variation of the wall / trim / skirting colour. Are there any 'rules' in terms of keeping the trims / skirting in the same colour as the wall paint - ie using 1/4 strength hog bristle. I also like Antique White USA - my windows are paperbark / stone beige. Roof is woodland grey, jasper for the pillars of the porch and a graphite brick from Boral For the kitchen looking at white cupboards (still to pick a white) and either a nougat / ice snow caesarstone benchtop - would a jarrah splashback look ok with the wall colours ??? Would an antique white kichen look good with the above colours As you can tell an absolute novice with colours so HELP please!!!! Re: Wall, Trim and Ceiling colours - Help Please 2Jun 06, 2011 4:05 pm I think ceilings look better white - even if its just a Ceiling White - will make the space look higher and bright. Depends if you are after some contrast with the skirts. If so, perhaps Antique White gloss with 1/4 Hog Bristle walls. I think all the colours you mention are fairly neutral - as long as they sit in a similar colour scheme, I don't think you can go wrong. Re: Wall, Trim and Ceiling colours - Help Please 4Jun 06, 2011 6:20 pm We have the trim the same colour as the wall, but we have black window frames and a reasonably strong wall colour... I didn't want the wall colour, then the big contrast to white trim, then black windows... I thought 3 strong colours might be too much. With your preferred wall colour being Hog's Bristle, and your window frames being paperbark, they tie in perfectly so the Antique White USA trim would be beautiful. Most people have white ceilings, but there's a few people that have used Antique White USA throughout including the ceiling. Kek has a really strong wall colour and has her ceilings in Bone. There really are no rules. If you have your trim in Antique White USA, there's no reason that you can't use that on the ceiling with Hog Bristle 1/2 walls. Sounds lovely in fact! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Wall, Trim and Ceiling colours - Help Please 6Jun 07, 2011 12:02 pm we used hogs bristle 1/4 strength on our walls and fair bianca 1/2 strength on the trims, skirting and ceiling. We were really happy with the white against trims against the stone coloured walls!
