Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 06, 2011 12:44 am Hi All, Just woundering if anyone has built with Carter Grange homes in Melb. They look to be relativly new and small so not a lot of info can be found on the net. They have a design we are interested in and woundering what their reputation is like. Thanks MD@KEYS Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 3Jun 08, 2011 8:23 pm I dont have any product info but I have heard they people who have set up the company ex PD staff . __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 5Sep 23, 2011 9:55 pm MD, if you have not yet spoken with Carter Grange - Do yourself a favour and go and see the houses and speak with the consultants. I saw a house on Tue for the first time, loved it, needed to make an urgent decision as had another builder hanging....they pulled out all the stops and by Friday - 3 days later - I had been to their head office twice, met virtually everyone in every department - who bent over backwards to help pull everything together within 3 days so I could commit to them. The owner even gave me his mobile number and offered to take us through a near completed house in the suburb next to us this weekend. I know I give great customer service in the business I own.... so it was so refreshing to meet a building company that ACTUALLY does the same. I am now actually looking forward to building whereas before I was a nervous nelly and was dismayed, disappointed and frustrated at the service handed out by the other volume builders. Besides all the above, the quality of the standard inclusions were great and we had minimal upgrades.... I could carry on but I dont want to sound like a paid advert! Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 6Oct 10, 2011 5:03 pm Hi All, I'm so excited to find other people building with Carter Grange!! I thought I was all alone! We are building the Metropol 43 and are right at the very beginning stages of design and planning. So far, I cannot speak highly enough of the customer service I have received from Carter Grange. What a refreshing change from all the other volume builders!! We have a very wide, but short block and every other builder refused to make changes such as widening the house. Not so for Carter grange! Every thing we have asked for has been accomodated. We originally spoke to the director and he was just amazing. I can't say what a difference it has been dealing with these guys compared to all the others!! To the two of you who are ahead of me in your build..please keep updating your progress here so I can see how you are both going. What house are you building? Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 8Oct 14, 2011 10:51 am We accidently heard about Carter Grange and we thank GOD for that.. We had been to many volume builders and was trying to customise their standard plan to suit us. We were never a 100% happy. We took each of them all the way to Tender to see the cost associated. With CG, we were lucky to deal with the director directly and had a custom plan drawn for us. Finally we had our dream drawn on paper. This was about 4 months back. The journey from day one had been amazing ! Great customer service and very friendly staff. Great assistance and advice during colour selection, electrical and tile appointments. We did our research on Hebel panels and are quite convinced about its energy efficiency, fire tolerence and pest resistence. We are now ready to sign the contract ! Nancy, I reckon you should give CG a go ! Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 10Oct 14, 2011 12:15 pm We are all set to sign the contract and aiming to start building by the end of this month. Going through the plans over and over to make sure we haven't missed anything. Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 11Oct 14, 2011 12:27 pm That's exciting....someone told me to read the contract properly too....also to ask for two types of insurance (Builder and Pubilc Liabilities) before signing the contract. I hope it is "fixed" price at contract stage? No more additional site costs? Did you demolish your old home? Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 12Apr 24, 2012 7:02 pm Hey all We were about to build with Carter Grange paid the deposit but have since pulled out. We loved the inclusions and the Metropol 43 layout but due to a number of outstanding issues and some serious concerns we decided to look elsewhere. Advice: Check your specs document, Carter Grange include all the same lenient tolerances and minimum building practices as volume builders. Do yourself a favour and get a copy of a standard HIA contract and a copy of the Victorian Building Commission Guide to tolerances and standards 2007 and compare these documents to what it is you are signing... nuff said! There are many trickle down practises in this business and considering where they come from it is understandable. Remember that old adage - if it seems too good to be true... I'd be happy to elaborate if you are interested still. poppy b we can see the end insight, overall our build has gone very smoothly. we have had a couple of issues but all builds do, very minor such as not happy with paint finish to doors and pipes under the sink but my husband spoke to SS and he said yep ill sort it and good to his word they are being fixed this week. i love the inclusions! overall very satisfied. poppy b - I'd love to know how your build finished it up and how the house has held up after a couple of years Our Sperway Homes Custom Build: http://sperwayhomescustom.blogspot.com.au/ Our Carter Grange Custom Home: http://cartergrangecustom50.blogspot.com.au Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 16Mar 29, 2015 9:24 pm Sounds like you're having a lot of trouble - read through your blog. Sounds awful. I love the Crown 35, and their standard inclusions ----> but it certainly doesn't sound like an experience you'd expect from a smaller builder Building a Madison 45 with Porter Davis Madison 45 Blog (Send me a PM with your email address to be added) Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 17Apr 01, 2015 8:30 am Hi there, we have currently put a deposit down with a different volume builder but are considering jumping ship and going with Carter Grange. ERs Custom Home - would you be happy to share what extras you chose for your home and their cost? Whilst with other volume builders there's pages and pages on itemized extras and costs on this forum, there is very little if nothing on CG... Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 18May 08, 2015 10:48 am Romaxx: I'd be happy to share what we chose as our 'Selections' upgrades with a total costs but I'm not sure if I can list the individual pricing as I'm sure CG would not be impressed and the prices may vary depending on what you choose and when you are building with them. There is a long list but our total came to roughly $16.7k (this excludes the integrated dishwasher, cabinetry, benchtops and tile upgrades as they are priced separately):

We are also in the process of selecting custom builder and finding it a daunting process to find genuine one's. We were planning to have first meeting with CG next week but I'm worried now. Would you be happy to share your experience or willing to share your new builder experience or PM me incase you don't want to disclose at this moment. Re: Considering Carter Grange Homes, any info? 20Jul 07, 2015 11:29 am rubix Would you be happy to share your experience or willing to share your new builder experience or PM me incase you don't want to disclose at this moment. Hi Rubix, I have sent you a PM with the details so hopefully you can get some competitive views as you begin the process. So far, we have been extremely happy with the quote and contract phase as our sales manager is brilliant and the drafts and permits team have called me at least once a week since we signed to give me updates on admin progress internally and with the council. Our selections meeting was super easy and we walked away very excited - we didn't need to upgrade anything as it was all discussed at the contract stage so we got the high level we agreed to at the beginning without any extra cost. We are really relieved we walked away from CG in the end but I would strongly suggest you still go ahead with your initial meetings with CG so that you get an idea of what your options are.
