Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 14, 2008 9:15 am Hi All
We have got land and are looking for a house to build on it. We've found the Mandeville 270 by National Builders which we like. My wife worries that it's cheap compared to a similar Porter David house. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of National Builders that they can share? Thanks Les Re: National Builders 3Jan 14, 2008 9:20 am altho it may actually be a dif company you are looking for? Re: National Builders 4Jan 14, 2008 10:14 am Without knowing anything about NBG quality, I think you are trying to compare BMWS with Hyundai's when you try to compatre NBG with PD. PD seem to be targetted at at the higher end of the market, with M Etricon being a better comparison to PD. As for NBG, I have not heard anything good or bad about them, but what I have seen on this forum. I am NOT suggesting that NBG are inferior quality homes at all.
You need to sit down with all plans, look at the inclusions, brands used, designs, features and extras, and come to a balanced decision. A enxample is where builder A inlcudes downlights, but builder B does not. Builder A has a more expensive house price, but Builder B is way cheaper, including paying extras for downlights. Just an example. As for the Supervisors issue, This is not just restricted to NBG, same thing happened to friends who bult with PD, and a search of this forum will highlight many other instances of the same across ost companies. Adrian B Re: National Builders 5Jan 14, 2008 6:02 pm The rep for the developer of the estate in which we are building advised us against NBG. Didn't have a problem with the other big builders, as far as I know, but although the developing company would not have forbidden us from going with NBG, they defeinitely said "we prefer you to NOT go with this lot".
Just for the record, dh and I liked some of their places. Fiona Re: National Builders 7Jan 14, 2008 9:27 pm Hi,
We put down our $500 deposit with NBG in Dec and are just waiting on the quote. We're going with the Carrington 27E. I think the inclusions that we are getting are great- incl. evap cooling, colourbond roof, 900mm appliances in s/steel, stone bench tops. What we liked most what that it didn't seem too flashy and the rooms were normal sized. We both don't understand why you need a huge bedroom. I haven't heard good or bad things about them, but it was the house that I wanted and fitted our prices range so that's why we choose it. Would like to hear what you decide in the end! Anthea Re: National Builders 8Jan 14, 2008 10:51 pm I may be speaking out of school, but I am lead to believe that National Builders will secure a contract and then source the labour to build it.
Nothing against that except that it can open the door to using the lowest tendering trade - a bit like NASA does when it tenders out new spacecraft - maybe not??? Anyway, they seem to have reasonable numbers and their designs aren't bad. Apart from the labour sourcing being the only negative that I have heard, they mustn't be all that bad!
