Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 04, 2011 3:22 pm Robe sizes don't seem to be labelled much on display home plans. How big is yours and what do you have in there (fitted shelves, drawers etc)? We keep slicing ours down smaller and smaller in our plan to give space to other rooms but I'm a little nervous we've gotten *too* small. Photos would be great thanks Anise Build thread: /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49109 Blog: http://thelofthouse.wordpress.com/ Re: How big is your WIR? 2Jun 04, 2011 3:43 pm We have two in the master, a His and a Hers. His is 1.7m x 1.51m, Hers is 2.61m x 1.45m. The currently only have the shelf and one hanging rail as we haven't gotten around to fitting them out (it's low on the priority list). I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: How big is your WIR? 3Jun 04, 2011 6:05 pm Ours is sort of U shaped, approx 3m x 2.5m x 2m. Would have loved a his and hers but unfortunately not enough room without compromising elsewhere! http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad92/barbs68/fit%20out/house286.jpg http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad92/barbs68/fit%20out/house287.jpg Re: How big is your WIR? 4Jun 04, 2011 6:09 pm Hi anise, I dread not having enough cupboard space so this time, I made sure there was ample. Here is the layout of mine. Its is behind the centre wall of the master bedroom accessed from both sides of the wall. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The longer side is 5m the shorter side is 3.5. I made sure there was plenty of hanging and folding spaces this time. Currently, we are using the wardrobes in all the bedrooms, its so annoying __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: How big is your WIR? 5Jun 04, 2011 7:30 pm Starz, your WIR is 5m x 3.5m? - my lounge room isnt much bigger than that Anise, Ive noticed that too - house plans dont ever show measurements of the WIR's. Ours doesnt either, but I just went and measured it and measures aprox 2.4 x 2.2 - door opens into the middle and is wide enough to have hanging space each side - his and hers sides . We only have the hanging space and a shelf all the way around - we keep suitcase, sleeping bags, spare blankets and the like on the shelves. We have a shoe rack each under the hanging clothes. Did not get any built in shelves - just bought 2 tallboys, and they sit side by side along back wall - the hangers above them we use for small things like ties and scarfs. Seems to be plenty of room for the 2 of us - perhaps we just dont own as many clothes as some other people. We do also have a dressing table in the bedroom itself - mainly want it for the large mirror. Have enclosed exciting pic below of my side, hope you get my description above. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj187/nurselovescoffee/house%20pics/HPIM0891.jpg Re: How big is your WIR? 6Jun 04, 2011 8:57 pm Wow - perhaps I shouldn't have asked, now I'm getting WIR-envy Your robes sound amazing In our last plan drawing ours was 1.6m x 2.6m (which I widened just a tad to 1.65 x 3). We're also wondering whether to go with a fully-fitted or just get a shelf & rail and supplement with drawers and shoe-racks etc We have such small old-fashioned traditional wardrobes now, it's hard to know what we'd really need if we let ourselves spread out a bit. How big is your WIR? 9Jun 04, 2011 10:16 pm 3.5 x 3.5 - same size as the minor bedrooms. I hate seeing and everyone else seeing my clothes so have enclosed cupboards on three sides. Re: How big is your WIR? 11Jun 05, 2011 12:26 am Wrexter - Wow! That's huuuge (and too right Kek - hehe ) will there be rails and shelves on all walls? and Kyton - Wow wow! A whole room. I wasn't sure I liked the cupboards as I thought I'd be forever looking behind doors for everything, but then I realised you can just see the clothes through the doors. Great food for thought here Build thread: /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49109 Blog: http://thelofthouse.wordpress.com/ Re: How big is your WIR? 12Jun 05, 2011 1:52 am Our's is 3m wide x 1.8m deep. I would have loved to have had it all fitted out properly, but the budget didn't allow for it at the moment, so we just have it all as hanging space. I am planning on having it (and the kids built ins) fitted properly in a year or two... Gives me a bit of time to figure out what I want! I don't actually have a photo of it, but if you like, I can take one tomorrow for you... seems like it might be a similar size to what you are looking at... Right hand is my side, left hand is DH's then back wall is joint. We each have a combination of hanging - short and long, shoe racks, shelves and drawers. All hidden is lovely for me because sorry - the only WIR that looks neat to me are those ones in mansions that are colour coded with everything hanging perfectly. Some things are worth waiting for. We started off with a much bigger wardrobe than its ended up being now. But I'm happy enough with it. We don't need anything huge anyway so we'll just make the most of it. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g72/juliagulia2006/Forever%20House/IMG_7608.jpg We are going to have a set of shelves at either end of the long part and between we'll have 2 hanging rails shirt/skirt length. Then on the other side in the little 'L' bit we'll have long hanging space. I stood in it yesterday and thought it isn't ideal but I know we'll be fine, I'm sure it will still be enough room. I think when you spend time on here and looking at plans all of a sudden anything this size seems ridiculously small. But now that I've stood in it, I have a better perspective. But then we're not huge clothes and shoes hoarders either. The measurements are 1.7 x 2.3 but its L shape so the Short part of the L is 1.7 and then it cuts back. Hope that helps. Thanks mate.
