Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 02, 2011 11:29 pm Hi Homeone Team I'm getting some extra work done on my new build, specifically raising the front of the block with the addition of a 1.8m retaining wall - to level the front of the block (it rises sharply to the front of the new house - ah the fun of building on a hill!) My question is that we are just at the eve of the start of this project and the 1.8m retaining wall is a "last minute" addition by the builder - to improve the way the front of the house and property works (it's actually a really good idea). My question is that Urban Utilities (Brisbane) has quoted to possibly install a new sewer connection from the street (due to changes in our block level the old connection which spurs from the site neighbours line may be an issue). This new connection design comes straight in from the street up the front (at 2M below the current ground level). If we build the 1.8m wall and back fill some land to level it out this will happen with the retaining wall crossing the sewer line entering the property and of course the level of the sewer line will then be 2m + 1.8m a massing 3.8m below the new yard level. Has anyone experienced this; do I need to "prepare" myself for any problems here - or is it just 'business as usual stuff'? Ta for your input! Mark Re: Retaining wall at front of property - issues with sewer? 2Jun 09, 2011 1:06 pm Be very prepared. Without exact knowledge of block v sewer hard to give advice other than seek it now from water board and engineer. If building parallel with it you will have distance restrictions and across you may need to encase in concrete. Not business as usual, check before agreeing with builder, 1800 mm high wall will be costly, without hidden extras Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Building Standards; Getting It Right!
